Been running this build since I picked up my XL300. I find I do better (dmg wise) with the pulses, and I don't particularly like missles in this game in general ( the dmg tends to hit multiple segments every shot, due to spread/tracking )

I've shaved down the cockpit and front side torsos cause of the smaller hit boxes, that I never seem to get busted. Leave just enough to survive a lucky ( unlucky ) strike. Had a scare or 2, but have yet to lose an arm or the mech to a head / front side hit.

Heat seems to be fine, if you work in and out and give it a chance to cool. Definately need to be pro-active on hot maps thou ( I tend to go for chain as opposed to split sets ).

------------------------

Well, I have seen a ton of SSRM2 builds on the forums, but nothing like this yet. It might be that it's a bad build, but the >500 DMG figures and first place in many games tell me otherwise.

This build WRECKS. It's a hell of a lot of fun to play and practice some high speed SRM targetting with. I used to run this with small lasers, but a bit of adjustments here and there made me able to squeeze in a sizeable amount of firepower. Since the change in jumpjets, I've also left 4 of them on instead of cheating the system to have just 1, to allow for better terrain usage (in frozen city for example). The medium lasers allow me to attack from so much further away with full damage that it's much easier to keep...

It is a rough life to be a light pilot these days. This uses some new tech to bring life to my Founder Jenny. I always feel that the old school 4 ML and SRM builds ran so dang hot it was a chore to run the thing. Dropping the SRMs for one huge "Sucker Punch" of my choosing allows me to free space and weight for some DHS for those lasers and even enough room left over for an LAMS. An alternate idea would be to run x4 ER ML and drop the LAMS and a JJ for an extra DHS.
Gentlemen, I submit for your improvement the AlphaStreamer Mk 363-R.

I've tried to create MetaMech's description of a Fire Support Light in a JR7-D. The focus has been on the 2x ERLLas and I'm using Advanced Zoom and Advanced Seismic Sensor modules.

I've actually come to enjoy playing this, when I step away from Conquer matches. But I'm definitely open to improving my experience. Constructive criticism and suggestions sought.

At first blush this looks like a stupid build, right? At best a support mech, not a good fit for a Jenner.
Except that this was built with just one goal in mind: to maximize C-Bills earnings.

you should play assault/skirmish, touch every enemy with the ERLLas or LRMs if they're not in sight. TAG the crap out of ECM mechs and shoot them LRMs to get TAG auto-assists. Use your speed and jump jets to get spotting assists while staying out of trouble. Equip the advanced target decay module to maximize the chance of spotting assists and also land your own LRMs more reliably.

Most mechs can outgun you, so pick your battles carefully and run to your team if you get singled...
I find this build to be a great harasser and quick Base capper. It's very effective against larger mechs as well as other scouts. With adding "Master" your speed increases significantly too.

Where it has issue is with Streak enabled 'mechs , Light 'mechs with light lasers, and can run fairly hot.

My take on the dual-SRM4 build. This is very much a close-in hit-and-run build. The small lasers may seem too short range to some, but really, in order to get a good hit with the SRM4s, you need to be in close anyway. The 4 JJs allow you to maneuver out of pretty much any tight situation, (it works great on Canyon Network), and the speed is maxed with the 300 engine. Since the SRMs are really the primary weapons here, this thing carries three tons of ammo, which will keep you going for a good while.
If you like AMS on your Jenners, you could easily swap out a ton of ammo and a JJ; or you could add an extra DHS or two, though I've never found this build to have a problem with heat. But yeah, keep this thing in close, do some good strafe runs, and you'll rack up damage quickly while annoying the enemy team with your constant "stings".

I've seen a few similar builds on various sites, but mine represents a better compromise for my play style.

My priorities:
Armor
Firepower
Maneuver

To that end my JR7-D, known as "Killswitch," has near-max armor, damn good short-range punching potential, and near-max jumps with decent speed. Even with those priorities it still has fair heat dissipation, something that a good pilot can easily adapt to.

I typically run with the lasers on TIC1 and TIC2 divided by side, and the SRMs on TIC3 set to chain-fire. I have them chained so that I can make slight adjustments to aim between volleys. I may miss out on the occasional perfect shot, but I find more missiles hit this way especially on a moving target.

Note that despite the missiles being listed first due to damage potential, I treat them as a secondary weapon system. I don't fire them unless I think I have a good shot, which is why I carry only one ton of ammo yet...
This model takes advantage of the 2 Missile hardpoints to get the LRM's to launch 8+2 instead of 4+4+2.
I find that this build can be successful with BAP and TAG as LRM's seem useless when you can't target an ECM mech.

I try to play this mech in the 200-400 meter sweet spot that LRM's will not arch to high, which lets AMS nullify more damage. The damage with this mech is more than you think because it hits the CT very easily[size=0.7em]. Anti-light SSRM fast mechs can give you some grief.

Put this together when I wanted some light mech conquest dogfighting action for a change of pace. Simple concept, SPLas are great dogfight performance lasers, and BAP'd SSRMs make chasing down an SDR-5D or ERLLas RVN-3L my pleasure. From there, I went with the heaviest compliment of armor, and 2 JJs so that if one blows, I'm not a penguin. Or, ostrich. Flightless bird. AMS and spare heat sinks would require a significant weapon, engine, ammo, and/or armor downgrade, which seemed to defeat the purpose more than they would enhance my ability to pursue it.

Desired role is engaging the smaller mechs against whom Streaks are something to be concerned about. Works great as part of a lance/team as well, keeping lights off your fatties so your fatties can focus on the real threats, and not an MG Locust behind them. Runs hot, you'll need to chose between spray DPS of SSRM or directed DPS of SPLas on an enemy soft spot once your...
