My current loadout for the Commando, I wanted 3 srm4's and a ML, but that left me too close to a glass cannon. EDIT-better build with this
No point in downgrading the DHS, this thing is good as is, even as the cooling being a overkill. Even if you downgrade it you don't get much use out of the crit slot saved really.
I'm running this COM-2D at the moment and I really like it. Fast, ECM and nice short range power. Just keep aiming for those enemy legs!
Interim design: One nice thing about a design like this is you don't have to do it all at once. For example, here I took a stock COM-2D, upgraded to Endo-Steel, replaced the SRM-6 with an SRM-4, moved the ammo and heat sinks, and added ECM. There's a half-ton for adding a little armor as you see fit. An inexpensive way to add ECM fast. If you're certain you want Ferro-Fibrous armor when you're all done, you can get FF too at this point, but be sure or you may have to remove it again later. That's everything you can do without the large investment of an XL engine.
It's a pretty solid plan. I might swap the arm SRM4 for 2xSRM2. They're the same weight and you could chain-fire them for better heat management.
So after some latest patches, I've come up with this version of the Solid Snake. COM-2D (XL 195, ECM, 1 ML, SRM4, SRM6, 2.5 Tons SRM ammo, 176 Armor) Alternately, drop the Center Torso SRM6 to an SRM4, lose the 1/2 ton of ammo in the head, and you can squeeze an XL200 in there.
For the long Labor Day weekend I decided to make an alt account to test out the new player experience with the clans and decided to do it Commando style. On my main account I run the 2D Mythweaver Streaker build. So I went with Vergere's Solid Snake on the alt. I have got to say I much prefer the Solid Snake. For my play style this build is far superior. Escort the fatties till they open up the red team then go to work with them SRM's. It's also a fairly strong little back stabber and/or drive-by hunter. Ammo is a problem but to be honest it's a problem on all the Commandos that are not totally energy based. The Solid Snake gets 5 stars from me.
Using the same 'trick' as with Mythweaver's build allows to mount max. armor and add another 50 SRMs: going with an XL 195!
I was assigned the leader of our lights for a match for a German league called MBO (it's already simulating what Community Warfare might wants to become when it's finished) yesterday. As the weight of every specific Mech is rolled beforehand, we had to use two 25t mechs = Commandos. I obviously went with the idea of mine presented above, and the mech was a blast to play. Legging opposing lights , dealing deah blows to assaults or shredding some back armor - this build can do it pretty well. Apart from the usual scouting tasks of course. I upped my rating from 4 to 5 stars because of this experience.
Double post 4tw... I think going for 2x SRM2 in the arm might be even better. Higher rate of fire and better heat managament when used in chain fire.
[member=2226]Aylek[/member] Which unit r u in? We play the Smoke Jaguars and hat a match yesterday as well....
See my signature... Representing House Marik (no one else wanted to do so) we played against House Liao for control of Outreach that night.
I had tried this build before but performed poorly so I decided in favour of Mythweaver's. After readding someone else pointing out the obvious: that this build is worst fighting lights but better versus heavies I reconsidered my tactics and gave it a second chance. It's a very solid build, a little on too few ammo side of things but it can't be helped. I'm not sure it's better than Mythweaver's but it certainly is more fluid, geting locks for streaks is a pain in the ass, so I prefer it from a personal point of view.
