This is, basically, my Jenner build, but I don't use it as a long-range scout or a capper. It baits, it flanks and it occasionally tanks, and it does so close to the main force.

If you're going to be out harassing lights (or scouting, or running away from enemy 'mechs) the extra speed in the XL300 is a must.

Michael, doesn't your Jenner 7-F run a 255 XL engine?

I know what you mean about speed-is-life (and it took me running a Commando 2D to realize I can get away with dropping 10-20 engine rating and still be viable), but with the exception of Spiders, I don't think it's uncommon to have lights use a slightly-smaller-than-max engine. That said, with teamwork, you shouldn't be alone against 4 other lights, anyway.

Slightly modified version of UntamedZer0's Jennerceptor build. I've seen a couple of other variations of it, but none with armor like mine.

Subtract one jump jet for increased armor coverage on the arms and legs. The head armor is decreased very slightly because the last time I died from a head hit was several months ago. I also shift more of the torso armor towards the front, as I die from a cored front CT about 90% of the time. Most of the other 10% tends to be from legging.

You killed me with that thing (Or something similar) twice yesterday. It's very effective.

Yeah, I use a build with one SRM4 as my normal ride. I really don't like not being able to fire part of my armament when ECM comes traipsing along ... as it does all too often. I only survive ECM-Streakers when I'm very lucky, or someone comes to help.

Subtract the two Streaks and their ton of ammo. Replace them with one SRM4 with one ton of ammo and one extra heat sink in the engine. That's my normal ride.

Archwright, I tend to run mine in a similar fashion. If I'm farther afield from the main force, I tend to be with a pack. I would agree that the extra speed is likely a necessity for solo or scout work.

I run my Jenner JR7-D(F) with streaks, in fact our 'mechs may be identical, and would not change anything about it. ECM does make it more difficult to lock onto enemy targets but not impossible.

Here is what I wrote concening this on UntamedZer0's Jenerceptor Thread.

ECM is a deterant for the Streak but it isn't a total denial. Zer0 and I run against ECM all of the time with these 'mechs and it is important to remember that your sensors can still obtain a lock somewhere around 200-250 meters. (I don't remember the actual range) Keep in that sweet spot range firing Streaks when possible and use your energy weapons against that light's legs...he will go down.
Skribs recently watched me kill 2 ECM Commando's with my Jenner on Alpine (we engaged them both at the same time)...it's difficult but not impossible.

Yep. Not impossible, but difficult enough that I have abandoned all Streak usage and gone back to a standard SRM4. Maintaining a certain range against a target that's just as fast as you and actively doesn't want you to be in that range bracket is just too frustrating. Not to mention that all the while I'm maneuvering like mad, he's firing and hitting the Jenner's massive CT with every shot.

I couldn't even get through one day using Streaks (I hadn't used Streaks at all since the detailed stats were introduced). Ten matches is all I could stand. I'm just not good enough as a pilot to make it work. Of course, I'm 100% PUGging alone so my experience might be just a little bit different than yours.

I'll take my 60% accuracy rating with the SRM4 over the frustration of Streaks any day.

"dumb" is obvious I think, but "unbalanced" requires some discussion and I don't know if it's the place for it. Better keep it to discuss Zero's build and the idea behind it (you don't need that much ammo), which is insightful.
On a dedicated thread if you want.

Right now streak locks and damage is a bit askew. As far as encountering ECM it is a nuisance but it is also true I rarely go alone. If I do go alone I take more solo oriented builds. Generally something with standard SRMs. The real trick is staying in the increased lock zone afforded by Advanced Sensors. I am sure that looked good on paper at IGPGI but they obviously never tried it in a 152kph Jenner against a 140ish kph Raven. It's not impossible, just highly improbable.

ECM's only real issue to me is it's ability to stack. The stacking is what destroys the balance and ultimately ECM only denies use of locking missile weapons which most people consider 'noob tubes' or off balanced themselves. To me the argument almost chases it's tail for that reason.

This has definitely become my favorite build. Though I am running 1 ton of SSRM ammo, I have 232 armor on it. My last outing was by far my best since I took up the game. Last man standing, 3 kills, 2 assist and 709 damage. Quite a battle to end it with a Pretty Baby. The extra ammo would have been nice, so think I may back off my armor a bit to get it. If you haven't tried this build, you should.

With the BAP changes coming in, a true Jennerceptor emerges:

I'm in love!! But what am I missing here?!?!?! Only 10 HS? a 300 XL? All the same weapons? 3 jump jets instead of 2?!?!? How did you shoe-horn on the BAP?

Seriously, start base model in the OP. I added a 1/2 ton of armor in place of 1 DHS, and dropped 2 JJ for the BAP. I guess you could keep the 1/2 ton of armor off for 1 more JJs

The JR7-D was the first mech coming to my mind as well when reading the changes to BAP. I am little sceptical about your build @ PhaedrusBE because your heat efficiency simply isn't good enough for a prolonged battle on hot maps like Caustic Valley or Tourmaline Desert. I've been running the Jennerceptor's loadout for quite some time now, but I think we can't get away with this heat efficiency when adding BAP to the mix.

A friend of mine swears by small lasers in his JR7-D, but I am not totally convinced by them. However, the do open up a nice compromise for the post-BAP-changes battlefield:

With this configuration, 2 ML mixed with some SSRMs fired at medium distance (200-300m) when doing strafing runs won't never ever overheat the mech. The Jenner's speed however allows for very quick hit-and-run maneuvers, and this is where those SL begin to shine, as you can often fire them twice - once on your way in and then on your way out again, thus increasing the damage potential in comparison to 2 additional ML. I will try the 4ML+2SSRM2 loadout for sure, but my gut feeling tells me that those hot maps will get problematic. And we all know that we don't want to shut down amidst a horde of enemy heavy and assault mechs...

Aylek, these are exactly the changes I have made in order to run with BAP. I still have to post it on my thread as well. I've been running it for a few days now and if you can get over the annoying pitch of the sm. lasers it still works rather well.

I'm honeslty a terrible pilot, so I usually try to follow what reccomendations I've heard floating about around here regarding heat efficiency. I thought 35% was considered a good number to shoot for, or should it be higher for lights?

35% is fine if your heat discipline is good. You should always try to have the best efficiency possible. If you have trouble controlling your heat it may be a good idea to downgrade your weapons alittle until effective management becomes second nature. All of us lose track of things in the heat of battle, from time to time, and shut down infront of the entire enemy team...
