Lights obv. don't have the staying power of medium or heavy mechs. Shutting down because of heat with one of those in front of an enemy mech already is bad, but in a light this usually spells doom on you. I therefore usually aim for at least 1.40 heat efficiency (MWO mechlab) or some 4x% cooling efficiency at Smurfy.

As for the JR build above, one can argue that the SSRMs are getting more important for the chassis in relation to the current state. Cutting 2 of the 5 JJs for another ton of SSRM-Ammunition is a change I am therefore looking forward to try as well.

I never run with anything less than 4 Jump Jets in a 'mech because I believe the manouverability is the most important aspect of light 'mech piloting. Just a personal thing, most people tend to disagree with me on that.

You could also cut engine (*gasp*) to get a full loadout, or add another ton of SSRM ammo.

The XL280 is a perfectly acceptable engine. It is the one I'm using for my 4xMLas, 2xSRM4 Jenner.

I still am and will always be a believer in Max engines on little 'mech's like these. I used to run with the 280XL and found that the faster guys were able to outrun and out manouver me nearly every time. If it was my 'mech and my ass on the line, I'd go big or go home...in a body bag.

    Myth.

I suppose I should have said "With sufficient firepower, the XL280 is a perfectly acceptable engine." In my experience, double-SRM4s puts the Jenner beyond that line. I can only speculate how BAP w/double-SSRM2s and the 5/21 patch will change that equation.

The 280 XL will put your Jenner right about the speed of most Commandos. Spiders almost invariably will run faster, as will most 3Ls and Death Knells, but most everything else will be slower. I wouldn't go below a 280, but I wouldn't feel underpowered with one, either.

There is no best answer, because the best build I can think of would be about 38 to 40 tons, depending on how many DHS you wanted to add. I just think that between sacrificing firepower (be it downgrading MLs or dropping DHS), JJs, armor, and speed, losing that tad bit of speed is the best option.

It really isn't a black and white thing. A mech with lower heat efficiency can be ok if their play style caters to it. However, I would be very wary of anything under 30% efficiency.

My BAP Jenner. Dropped 3 JJs and added the BAP. To me, the extra heat from the DHS is more valuable than the JJ. I run my first Jenner (JR7-F) with only 2 JJs anyways, so I'm used to it.

For a long time this Jenner carried AMS, but since the BAP vs ECM changes I decided to swap out the AMS for BAP. This is a great 'Mech for chasing down ECM equipped light 'Mechs.

Really good build. By far the best build for the D

Possible variants : drop the ams for more jj's engine. Or drop the engine a tad for more jj's. mostly a personal taste / style thing.

This is a pretty decent mech if you want to hunt down Ravens and Spiders but watch out if you get someone in an LRM boat who just doesn't like you.

yeah, that XL300 works wonders against other lights. even at the loss of a few systems, your 2 JJ are still good at getting you around the field.

Sorry fellas but I had to do one big MEGA MERGE since all these mechs are essentially 4x MLas + 2x SSRM builds with various tweaks here and there. Since Helmers post was the oldest then his took the Title and Precedence.

This is the build i use but i have BAP installed with 1 ton of SSRM ammo , a very good light killer as well as heavy or assult killer , Jenners always have good Hardpoints for it to deal alot of damage for a light mech! best damage i did with this build is around 900 damage, 5 stars!

I run mine with a 300XL, 4xML, 2xSSRM2, 2JJ, and 200 rounds of SSRM Ammo. Works out QUITE well lol.

Excellent build. Still prefer the x6 MLAS JR7-F but this is a very close No 2.

After running around with an XL300, 4xMLAS 2xSSRM build I felt there was room for some optimization. When I finally elited my Jenners I began thinking about downgrading the engine although I really like the insane speed from the XL300.

I threw in an XL280 and saw what I could fit. Basically I now have another ton of streak ammo so I don't have to save it up for lights or heavily damaged targets. I can streak all day which makes me a much happier person. Was also able to fit in a Beagle Probe to decrease lockdown time. I also cheated installed Artemis because if further decreases lockdown time while not needing any space/weight.

Now I can pwn down those pesky ECM bugs with streak barrages while never running out of ammo. Speed loss is totally bearable. The only thing is that this build tends to run hot when you constantly fire everything but... if you don't build a Jenner hot I don't know if it's still a Jenner.

I'm really surprised how much of an improvement all this was and finally the 7-D is as much fun for me as the 7-F.

Merged the above built with Helmer's version as they are almost the same.
