Light mech pilots laugh at 2 MLas, this is definitely not effective at defending yourself or keeping the assailants away.
When you're an LRM-boat, your best and only defence is your positioning, close to your teammates. That's why you need speed.

I simply don't get how such a build as in the OP is worth 5-Stars for some of you... it's far too slow for repositioning, lacks a TAG, runs far too hot and is very low on ammo considering the amount of launchers and the 8R's quirks.

And no, I don't need to build and try the OP build to reach that conclusion. It's something the veteran players among us will notice on the very first sight.

There so many better builds for this variant in our forums, but rating in such an inflationary way dilutes the purpose of this site.

Now, I won't rate this thing how I think it would be appropriate for the OP's build, but I appeal to all of you to vote in a somewhat meaningful way simply to allow other users to quickly recognise the better builds of each chassis and variant.

Be nice to th newbies please. It would be painful to the OP if we rate this build we both know that.

How about you post your take/version here so people have a choice?:smug:

I actually already was nice. ;)

The 8R went through several 'best build' iterations in my opinion, and it's probably not possible to do an objecticely single 'best' build as of today, as personal preference will always matter.

What did we learn from this discussion regarding LRM boats for our fellow new players?

    - Bring BAP and TAG.
    - The number of launchers / ammo ratio matters as well as the quirks associated with each variant.
    - Speed actually matters as well as being able to move with the group is the best protection possible against light mechs.
    - Try to mount substantial backup weapons just in case or when running dry.

    Example build:

Some pilots even went down to double LRM15+A as their firing rate is pretty high on the 8R, thus resulting in more ammo, additional cooling and something like double LPLAS as backup.

merged, since some time ago we decided that a single MLas or a TAG instead is not a reason enough to have two separated threads.

Well, i don't join the discussion whether this is a good or bad MOD of the classic 4x LRM15(+A) Build with some additional PewPews. Aylek already pointed out the aspects, which are crucial for a good Missile Boat (BAP, TAG, Ammo Count, Speed etc..).

I just try to min-max the STD-Engine Modification by @jarjardude01 for all the STD-Engine Lovers, if you really die a lot from ST-Explosion-Deaths, although recently with the Hell of Polar Highlands you really should not be afraid of getting into CQC too early. Here it goes:

Yes, i like Artemis IV as well. But imo in this build, Cool Efficiency is really necessary for the massive Heat Production. For that you need to bump up the Engine Size and Endo Steel to get some more. Artemis IV takes away 4 Slots, which you really need for the Ammo Count. The 3rd MLas is really optional, if you really think you need the extra defense firepower and have some TAG-Helpers in your team. ;)

Well show us noobs how its done and post your pic, you must be able to get 1500 - 2000+ damage or more out of the -8R. In a PUG. In Quick Play. Hell, bring all your TAG helpers too.

I'm just having fun tenderizing opponents with LURMS on this thing ........ 6 Stars :D

As far as LRM boat is concerned your max damage is tied to your ammo count (and DHS for sustained fire) and also game time. So most of the time the game would be over before you got into things like 1.5k damage let alone 2k damage. usually before that the game is done (if you are hitting the right targets)

Before you ask, yes I have had 1.5k games with LRM, though it is uncommon and is sort of a slow dragged on close game.

    @Aylek ... nvm, do your worse.:smug:

My old build must have gotten deleted in a clean-up, so here it is for posterity's sake. Slow, vulnerable, but has enough ammo you can fire indiscriminately. Maybe not the best build, especially with heat scaling so fast on them, but it's what I ran back in the day.

    5/5,
    Nice build!

My favourite LRM-Boat till now, i use this Version:

3200 missiles with Missile Rack skill
    HELL YEAH!

PS: In 200 games played i ran dry once or twice. No BAP i know no defense too. No Risk No Fun.
    YOLO ;)

Made a Light Engine alternative. having 4 LRM15+A with 20% cooldown reduction is a scary thing indeed. Using a light engine lets is roam the battlefield a bit longer, at the cost of a shield arm, 1t ammo and 5 kph.

The ammo should be okay-ish with missile rack skills, though you can exchange the arm DHS or MLs for more ammo as desired. 2ML won't doo much against a fresh light getting up in your grill anyway, so it might be worth it stripping them out for more lurmz.

Made a slower adaptation with BAP and more DHS.

And one with just BAP, screw the extra DHS ;P

    5/5,
ALL RIGHT I admit it hurts commenting on the same lurm build 3 times in a row ;p

Likely THE best IS LRM mech. Make sure to apologize after running it though. My version uses a LE and no artemis. Could use a bit more ammo, even with missile rack skills.

Chaotic Harmony was running this during his "missiles go woosh" trolling campaign with an XL, closer to 3000 missiles and no lasers

    What can I say, I'm a masochist :D

Not sure if XL is worth it, you are low on slots and close to the engine cap already. You'd have to remove endo and the weight gain is kinda negated. You do get more slots for DHS though, meaning it could run heat-neutral. If you strip the lasers and exchange it for 2t of ammo I think that's a decent in-between, but I like them for aesthetic reasons.
