Since i got both the A and D variants, i was thinking, if i can make a similarly fast mech out of the A variant. And here is what i came up with. It is pretty basic. The most important part is the XL engine, and the BAP, so the SSRMs can target even inside an ECM field. You just have to be within 150m of the ECM mech. Haven't tested this build yet, i was looking for some opinions first from the community. I'm guessing the XL engine will make it vulnerable, so you can't zombie with it, but since it is quite fast, it can be used to hunt for light mechs, and can flank like the D variant, or the YLW with XL engine. Also it has 3 more damage with the 3rd SSRM2. But it might run a bit too hot... So what do you think of it? Anyone ran a similar build?
Very nearly similar, except I decided to opt for 2 med pulse and put a slightly slower XL 245 and added extra tons of armor, just to keep my engine nice, safe and cozy under my armor
Realize it's an old topic, but in any case . . . I never bought the A variant of the Centurions, as I went with the Yen-Lo, D, and AL instead. However, now with the free one I got yesterday (worked out great for me ) I loaded it up and have been running it almost exclusively with this build (though I switch armor values a bit to give the legs a little extra). At first I left the BAP out, and dropped a half ton of armor more to put in MPLasers instead of Mediums. However, I switched off for the BAP variant the last few matches. Overall performance with both builds has been relatively the same for me; but in general, the extended range of the Mediums compared to the MPulses, paired with the reduced heat, have really been a bonus. Here's a quick sample of this build's awesome capabilities (not 1000+ dmg or anything, but still a good performance). No consumables, just good old conventional stuff:
*Laugh* I just built this in Smurfy from scratch, trying to find a way to use my freebie mech without having to buy my way out of upgrades (seriously? nobody will pay for a slightly-used Artemis? ...and why can't I just leave the old guidance system in my garage with the piles of extra armor, JJs and single heatsinks, PGI? /endrant); anyway, I swung by Mechspecs to see if anyone had done similar, and here you'd beat me to it by over eight months! I give you 4/5 at the moment because I haven't gotten to test it yet myself (trying mine as a speedy little LRM+A & AC/2 at the moment), but I know the build is solid... I've been running my Phoenix Wolverine in a very similar configuration to great success. For those tweaking their shiny new CN9-A, the only upgrade you have to buy out of is the FF armor, which is the least painful of the lot. Artemis has no interaction with the Streaks, so you can hang on to the upgrade for other builds where it does matter at no penalty. Cheers to a great build!
