Basically, I like to run my Mechs (especially light ones) with max armor and max engine. In Spider chasis I like to have max JJs too if possible. Not much you can do with this chasis variant. 2x MPL is strongest you can go if you want to fill both hardpoints. And, of course, you can shoot all day without the risk of overheating.
Ran something similar to this for a while grinding out xp, but I just still hate the amount of heat the pulse lasers put out. I think it performs a bit better with standard medium lasers.
I fought this very Spider except I believe it had ECM. Fast and annoying! My Jenner had to break a sweat to kill it and it took a long time too. Had I been in my F I would have vaporized him sooner but the D got locked down and missed out on using the SSRM. BAP will change all that
Agreed with above. If you will grind this mech, grind it like this. It's the most fun. While the number of kills depend a lot on the team you drop with, you can easily get 300+ damage in it and have 3 kills. I would not recommend going one-on-one with any other light mech though, they have you out classed in weapons. I had a spider 5d vs spider 5v (me) duel in this, the other spider had 3 Medium lasers. He legged me before i could core him, his core was in the red though. I was also called the "stupid spider" that lived and won the game for us on other maps I would suggest a possible option of dropping the rest of the arm armor and some head armor + 2 JJs to add AMS, its not always required, but sometimes helps.
Agreed, this 'mech cannot go toe-to-toe with other lights (unless you run a wolf pack). The most frustrating match I've had in this 'mech was last night. I got mained by two cicadas and a fast Trebuchet.
btw : with the small pulse having the same range values and better recycle (which is important imho cause i use this mech mainly as hunter for other lights) for less weight i use them instead...and can get other stuff in (ams for supporting the heavies when the rain comes) or max the armor
@schrecksekunde SPL have a range of 90. and a max of 180 meters. MPL have a range of 180. and a max of 360. check the MWO wiki, http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/, or even sarna.net. I have never liked SPL, and most likely never will. But if you really want to support your team, just lower the engine. You will keep up with all your team just fine.
I did the same thing. A bit more armor and full JJ. I decide to NOT have AMS for once. Extra armor from FF seems useless since the only parts with non-max armor are the hands which are just deadweight. I call this the "CapWarrior" since this is great for capping and running. You cap until some big guy comes, then you run while he caps again. You can tie up stupid mediums alot since they will be on a wild goose chase, and you can out run the lights easily. Your JJ allows you to really FLY accross anything. Sometimes putting things back to neutral is annoying enough for everyone. Remember to get Cap Acceleration on this (as with most lights) and probably seismic sensor (so you sense them coming behind buildings).
i suggest, you dont have to put too much armor on the arms, i understand that because you want to shield your Torso from side attacks, but if you want 8 JJs, get tons from the arms
I really wish there was a good way to fit a quick STD engine with these MPLS just because everything is in the CT, but you either have to strip away almost every JJ, drop down to regular MLS, or you won't have enough speed to make use of being harder to kill since everything targets your legs or CT easier.
Almost tempted to drop two more JJ for 8 and 0.5 off the arms for a BAP. That 350m range is very tempting as you become a genuine scout. Something like this:
