Well, that person you are talking about is a little bit crazy for the game.

A parallel could be drawn towards MWO as well.

How so Grimm? Well, there is ZERO community warfare, there are ZERO new game modes, lobbies, dropships, etc. All there are (realistically) are new mechs to purchase, a new map now and then and "game balancing". I know guys that are $500+ into MWO on the promise that Community Warfare is coming.

6 of one, half a dozen of the other ya know?

In my defense, I spent at least $100 on physical goods :p (I know that's not enough of an excuse, but still.)

The thing that makes this game beautiful is the fact that they have NO PUBLISHER. That means 100% of the funds get put towards the game rather than advertising or a CEO's pocket.

All the money I've saved through piracy and demoing I'm giving to something that really deserves it. I was going to donate during the kickstarter campaign, but I decided to wait until I saw something conclusive. The hangar module was that.

I'd just like to point out that the hangar module is only 3 months old and they're already going to be releasing dogfighting in the next month or two. Think of any other game that takes a year to make, think of how good that game is, and then realize that Star Citizen is already light years better than that game. Along with their transparent development policy, I believe they will make something great. That is why I pledged.

Without community warfare, MWO is kind of like a "dogfighting module" all on its own, no?

Oh, and I don't mean to point fingers, but if Michael and Marec have the ships they claim they do, they've pledged well over $500 each, huehuehue.

Mil Spec Super Hornet (Weekend Warrior Pack + Upgrade)
    Cutlass (Digital Pirate Pack)
    Starfarer (Individual Ship)
+80$ in store credit on the account

So yes, I am around $500.00 in as my Starfarer used to be a Constellation pack (physical pack).

I bought the Origin 350r, Super Hornet, Freelancer, Gladiator, Retaliator.

Yup, and as usual people ask "isn't it insane spending that much money on some pixels ? You don't really own a thing!"

Some of those who ask have a steam account so the answer is simple in those cases: Do you think you own the games on that account ? They are just licenses and can be revoked anytime.

Spending money on virtual goods without any property rights is far more widespread already than most people see to think. Microsoft is trying to do this with Windows 8 OEM licenses: You no longer get a license number with your Dell or HP or Acer, so you have no proof of ownership. Can't resell the license, and you have to depend on Microsoft's curtesy if you change your system too much (as transplant put your old system disk into a new PC).

I also pledge because I want to do big publishers like EA, UBI or SONY in the eye. Especially EA. They have been the undertakers of PC gaming, buying creative studios, laying off staff and milking the brands for whatever it was worth by releasing worthless sequels that didn't stand up to the original. They were also spearheading that DRM crap that destroyed at least one DVD drive in my computers and gave me a virus in one case because I had to download a cracked exe in order to make the original game run - how crazy is that ?
Sending a powerful message that the crappy middleman isn't really needed is definately worth $500.

For me it's even more simple in the end. I'm buying time. By not having to grind as much before I can enjoy piloting the ships I want to is absolutely worth it. Every person has limited lifetime. There's no book to tell you how much.
I'm in the fortunate position to be able to spend a few hundred bucks for what can only be called a hobby, and by doing that I save time, because it would take longer for me to grind ingame (especially since I can't afford to play as much as I used to anymore) than earning money in RL and just buy the stuff. So I consider it money well spent.

That last bit is the entire reason I pledged. I have commitments to mechspecs and real life family and this saves me a ton of grinding. I can put on my brown coat and go with my starfarer.

If MWO goes belly up I may drop some money on star citizen. What is there looks promising. I registered but past that I can't see spending money on it yet. Between Wife, Tennis, Work & MWO I really have my plate full already.

For myself, I bought the Aurora LN pack for 45 USD, which is 5 bucks more than is required to get alpha access, but I wanted the added quirks of the Legionaire. That said, I probably won't spend any more real cash on the game (or so I say right now!), as supposedly everything and anything you could ever ask for will be available in-game for UEC. It's just a matter of grinding (and who doesn't like grinding?) before I get myself a Super-Hornet, then maybe a Cutlass or Caterpillar, possibly a Retaliator, and eventually, the new Mercenary Gun-Ship that is being worked on in The Next Great Starship.
Needless to say, I am approaching the game from a military/mercenary perspective, with dog-fighting and combat being my primary focus at the moment. I'll let my friends haul the big cargo; I'm shooting stuff!

Big stompy 'Mechs are still the best thing there is, and I absolutely do NOT intend to abandon MWO entirely whenever Star-Citizen comes out. But this game looks very promising as a Space SIM (duh, it's Chris Roberts!) and I am really looking forward to it. (Just get me that Dog-Fighting Module!)

Star citizen looks great and made me all interested into it. I was even close to buy on of these ships, but when i learned about the insurance or perma loss system i lost all interest in the game.

There were ships for sale that had LTI so if you were interested before November 22nd or whatever it was then you would have had LIFETIME Insurance (free). As for the other ships, they said that your insurance premiums will be so small as not to be a bother to even the most casual of players. If you don't play your insurance doesn't run... Time freezes so to speak.

Get your interest back, it will be LEGEN (wait for it) DARY!!!!

That maybe true, but i still abhor perma loss systems in games. I'm going to look at it when it's finished and if the rest of the game is awesome awesome enough i could be swayed to put up with it. But to make my mind over it i need to see the finished product. Till then it not realy catches my interest.
Still from what i have seen i have to admit, that for people who doesn't dislike the chance of perma loss in games like me it's a game worth to support.

Lol I've got 3 ships with LTI and 1 without but I'm not worried. It is simply too big a game (actually its two games) for me not to be interested. In fact myself and two more mechspeccers are working on a project that will be big big for SC users.

I've kind of defaulted in the organization of the group I'm loosely playing MWO with. However, do any of you have any good ideas on groups?

    :D Hello Guys
Yes i backed the Game, I have spent over $415.00 in packages for this game,, when i saw my total i have cut myself off,,,LOL

I have the Limited Edition Retaliator and the Civilian F7C Hornet
I look for ward to playing alot of the Alpha and beta to help build this game into what I would like it to be. We have a Squadron in SC which is based on our MWO unit the "Davion Royal House Guards" is a RCT so it would have an attached Aerospace Squadron Called "1st Royal Aerospace" alot of our members are playing Both games and we Love Mechwarrior to death, but we want more than just Arena Matches we want a campaign and Community warfare is a ways off so Star Citizen it is.

Also i just Love MMo style games I just hope that this Flight sim ground combat merchantile conquest and exploration game will have enought (JK)
