Saw 3 of these the last couple of nights working as a group. They do incredible damage as a team and while I am unsure of his engine size he was moving fast enough that I would guess it is VERY close to what I have installed on here. I haven't tried this yet but apparently Raven is the FOM so might as well give it a whirl.
Running three of these as a pack is terrifying. In the heat of battle it would be very difficult to concentrate on an individual target and if they are concentrating their fire they will make quick work of anyone. When I am not TAGging for my team I run with three Med.Lasers and it is really quite effective. The extra three points of damage may make a substantial difference over the course of the engagement; I may have to rework my RVN-3L if your findings are that good. Mythweaver.h34r:
I find this build runs hot. I've had a chance to play with it a little bit tonight. It might take a little bit of patience on my part to get used to the heat profile.
In that case give my RVN-3L a try. Just replace the TAG and Med.Plaser with three Med.Lasers and see how much of a difference that extra three damage really makes using Pulse. I Love my Raven and the seamless effectiveness it provides in killing. Myth.
A Cool Shot 6 and a Cool Shot 9 to tend to help with this build but only for a pass or two before the heat issue rears its head under heavy fire.
Drop a medium laser and add the tag. I have a ton of hours with the raven and when your one on one with someone and tagging them the support is great....barring your team is paying attention and you have a missile boat.
I do Agree that this build runs hot, i got the chance to test this build out and it happen to work out really well , i save my ssrm's for light mechs since i only have 100 bullets but i do throw in a few alphas every now and then, didnt have that much of a problem with heat because i usually run pass by and do a alpha or use the the 3 MPlas on the mechs i see , ecm helped me accomplish this. i use adv sensor range , adv target delay, adv seismic sensor and capture accelerator modules for my Raven-3L. Here is a game i did with this build , too bad we lost though but still it performed well. even if i just use the 3 MPLas most of the time. love MPLas because it gave me pinpoint accuracy and time. Since it only takes 0.6 sec for it to dish out its damage , i can quickly torso twist and run away
This looks like quite an excellent build, especially because I only have an XL280! I've been concerned about dropping the extra ton of SSRM ammo and about the heat that MPLas can generate, but I think it's definitely worth a try when I play my Raven next. I hardly ever dig into that second ton of SSRM as it is with dual streak launchers. 5-5 stars from me!
I personally don't find the 3 extra damage from those 3MPL is worth it compared to a ML. I suppose the ROF is better, but it seems to run a bit too hot. 4-5 stars for me.
I was previously running the "RVN-3L Grimm Variant MKII (1x SRM6+A, 3x MLas, ECM, AMS, XL295)" with decent performance, and avg about 150 dmg per match, with my very limited skill set. Since I wanted to Keep my super fast XL295 running, I had to give up my 11th dbl Heat sink in the engine to run this build. As a result, my 3L runs incredibly Hot. But it's forcing hit and run tactics that suit lights, and my avg dmg jumped to 220-250 per match immediately! Solid Build, works well for me!
I know this is a bit of a necro, but if you take out the pulses, add medium lasers, you can add a BAP and use a XL295 for more speed. It runs cooler, has more range (tiny bit) the streaks are slightly better, and you can either trade the extra ton of ammo for another heat sink (not really needed at this point), or you can keep the extra ton of ammo. Here is the support version for fighting off other lights and mediums:
