The best Dragon pilot in my guild (out of at least 4 of us who play Dragons a lot) runs something similar to this with a 340 XL in his 1C. This hits pretty hard, and has some decent range on it with a fair amount of speed. Incisors Alt Config A My alternate configuration is 2 LLs instead of 1 LL + 1 ML, with a 300 XL to make the difference. This can run a little hot, but it's got better range. Incisors Alt Config B I recently realized that Medium Lasers and Large Pulse Lasers take the same total amount of time to fire and recharge, making ML+LPL a nice combination. Not quite the range of Alt Config A, but a bit more firepower.
Since you mentioned it in my thread I've tried out this build (I had a spare XL325 ) and I really like it Still not used to ballistics in the arm but it's a nice mech to practice it with
I really like Alt.Config. B. In fact I think I'll refit this week and try it out. I'm hoping to get FRAPS underway this week as well. If I like it I'll post a Video here. Myth.
I hope one of these works for me. I bought a Fang when they put them on sale, and it's one of my least favorite mechs. Getting through elite so I can finish mastering my Flame will be torture if I can't get one that feels fun.
I think that Alt. Config. B is an excellent 'mech to grind XP with. It is heat efficient and hits hard at all ranges, you could certainly do much worse. Good luck with the Dragon...my favourite Heavy 'mech chassy. Mythweaver
I'm actually running Config A with an ER Large in it now. Bit less efficient, but much better at range. Weapon groups are 1) all lasers, 2) guass, and 3) ER laser. Gauss followed with a nice burst from the ER does a lot of damage.
Alt B works for me. Or the elo reorg they just did today has me killing idiots, noobs, and the slow. Hard to say.
Once I gave up trying to get the missile hardpoint to work, I tried out a number of "simpler" builds including this one. I settled on a variant of this with an XL330 and an ER LL in the high hardpoint. It's a no-nonsense, easy to play, and very effective build... and in many cases those are the best. If the missile tubes get redone on the Dragon, it might end up being worthwhile to add in an LRM10 for extra long range damage (and drop the engine to an XL 300), but for now this is the way to go.
