What are the best mechs and loadouts to use the Clan Targeting Computer?

Let me know-in the discussion below-

Any clan mech benefits from it, that said I run TC1 on a few mechs. Kit Fox, Nova and Timber Wolf (TC1-3). TC5 and 7 on Warhawk and Dire Wolf. Can add some builds tonight after work.

Although I love the increased crit chance and range, do not underestimate the target info speed combined with a CAP. It's near instantaneous and perfect for brawlers. :)

Mmh I tend to feel they're overated and have retconned them out of a lot of my builds or just reduced them to level 1. They were good on cERLL builds but not so convinced on others as I use the AP a lot on my brawlers anyway. I'm going to retry them a bit as the extra range from the level 5 weapon modules is tempting combined with the TC.

Targeting Computer Mk.1 is the best possible use of 1 ton and 1 slot for a piece of equipment once your hardpoints are filled. The best benefit comes from energy boats like a Timberwolf with 5 cERML and 2 cLPL, Nova with 12 cERSL, Stormcrow with 5 cERML and 2 cERLL, or it is good on almost every Dire Wolf build.

Anything more than a TC1 and you start seeing less benefit per ton spent, however it depends on your build and what its primary role will be. The Ghost Walker DWF w/ 8 cERLL benefits directly from any TC you put in it. With a TC4 and lvl5 cERLL module, you can reach out to almost exactly 1000m with maximum damage. You can easily throw in a TC6 and reach past 1000m.

And the build only works with macroing ... o_O

Yeah and you're firing both sets of lasers at exactly the same time so they never overlap and you never suffer ghost heat....

Easier than you might think ;) Just can't get overeager to keep firing.

I do use a TC with my cLPL builds too, the extra range with the module is a serious boon, but really anything but an LRM build will benefit (LRMs...much less so, AFAIK). If I build anything as a laserboat, it will include at least a TC1 somewhere along the line.

I tap alternate tapping the Left and Right arm using chain fire so they are overlapping quite often.

My favourite DWF build with a TC4

It's quite easy to manage. Two weapon groups with 4ERLL on each arm on chainfire. Each click adds an ERLL to the rotation. You fire 3-4 LL (4 is a lot of ghost heat) at once for the initial salvo, and then keep up 2-1 depending on your heat.

Question : Do TC bonuses stack with each others?
I saw on smurfy that you can't equip two of the same TC, but instead of having let's say a TC6 i'd still rather have 1 TC3, 1 TC2 and 1 TC1

(i guess it doesn't, but it doesn't hurt to ask)

Presumably no, I've never tried it though.

I'm 99.9% sure that TC do not stack without checking in-game because of crit chances. Stack a Mk VII, VI, V, III, and I into a DWF and you now have a crit chance of over 100%.

Here is some interesting theory crafting though. Take this build:

The combined effects of all the TC would be:
    Zoom: +53.5%
    Sensor range: +26.75%
    Target Info Gathering Speed: +267.5%
    Projectile Velocity: +53.5%
    Beam range (long): 26.75%
    Beam range (max): 26.75%
    Crit chance increase: 51.75%

So this particular loadout has cERPPCs that travel at 1627.8 m/s
cERLL that reach out 1031m full damage and 2063m max range (assuming lvl5 range module)
cERML that reach out 564m full damage and 1129m max range (assuming lvl5 range module)
    Gathers target data instantly

And all of these have 100% chance to crit, and here is where things get weird and break the game:
    Standard crit chances are:
    1x Crit = 25% chance
    2x Crit = 14% chance
    3x Crit = 3% chance
    No Crit = 58% chance

So you just add the 51.75% TC bonus to each chance:
    1x Crit = 76.75% chance
    2x Crit = 65.75% chance
    3x Crit = 54.75% chance

So you have 100% chance to crit, but now your distribution is all screwed up. There is no real way for the system to determine WHICH level of crit you score, unless. 76.75+65.75+54.75=197.25 and then your percentages are a piece of that, So almost around the same chances to get any of the crit levels.

OR it could mean that the overall chance to crit increases by 51.75% meaning there would still be a 6.25% chance of NO-CRIT. That would make more sense and would actually lean toward TC stacking, although add another TC into the mix (highly unlikely) and you would be stuck in the same problem of +100% chance to crit.

I think this is the correct approach as it balance out the crit levels to the current distribution.

With a 51.75% overall chance increase, your crit chances would look like (rounded):
    1x Crit = 55.8% chance
    2x Crit = 31.3% chance
    3x Crit = 6.7% chance
    No Crit = 6.3% chance

    Much more balanced

Well it was more to split the electronics than to have an above 100% chances to crit.
On most mechs the targetting computer MKVII takes one full hit-box,
So let's say you use a balistic weapon in your arm and that your side torso is the only place where you have 7 empty slots. Then that means you'd have your weapon on one side, and your ammos on the other side, and that would really sucks.

    my concern :

Couple things regarding the build you are concerned about.
    1. Missiles (LRM, SRM, SSRM) do not benefit in anyway from TC.
    2. LBX weapons do not benefit from the crit bonus, only projectile velocity.

So investing any large amount of space/tonnage for targeting computer(s) on that build is almost pointless. Definitely not worth the investment when you only have 2 weapons fully utilizing the bonuses (c-ac2, ERLL)

    ^copied into you build thread

TC heavy builds should have multiple non-LBX ballistics and/or many beam weapons.

I get what you mean though, and to prove a point I went on the extreme to load as many TC into a mech as I could while remaining viable (if they did stack).

it's not for the weapons, it's for getting targets faster, wich i figured out they don't do either
(guess i took the "time to get targets info" for some "lock time" wich it is not, got it. It's only its armor and weapon datas you'd get faster)
f*** i need to be more cautious

Yeah, better off with more heat sinks and lazors. Honestly, you should find an alternative for the AC2, it's a pretty useless weapon for clans.

NOPE because it was either stated at one point that they don't stack, implied, or assumed that they don't.

Never tried TC7 before. I like TC1 alot, since that single crit slot and 1 ton is not alot, you can afford to bring a TC1 along even if you don't get full benefits for all your toys.

TC4 seems to be nice also. I only used that on an energy heavy build before, but I have to say I am impressed.
