Hi, I read this kind of threads about AMS http://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/153923-mech-builders-ams-worth-the-costs-right-now/ Imho AMS is almost useless for a Locust. (By the way, I use Radar deprivation.) Maybe versus SSRM? Still guessing if I'm wrong... Do you use AMS ? With AMS modules ? Are they really helpful ?
Since we're talking strictly about Locusts here, I only use it on the -3M. Double AMS with overload module. But it's only because I want to make something the -1E can't do better. It's not for my protection - a Locust uses speed to hide from LRMs, and 2 AMS do nothing against 5 or 6 SSRM6s - but to cover the pack if I feel like it, hopefully stacking with AMS from other mechs.
Here's my thread about AMS and it's general useage, we explore how AMS behaves with and without modules and in groups of 1/2/3. We did not cover Streaks (some argue that dual AMS vs streaks is worth it) which was planned but, we never got around to it. https://www.mechspecs.com/threads/ams-how-effective-is-it-really.8185/ Now, regarding locusts I bow to Epikts knowledge. I do own them but haven't played them enough to assertively state one or the other is better. I run all my locusts without AMS as speed is my main ally.
It definitely worth it against SSRM2s, if your aggressor is stupid enough to chain-fire them, especially when shot at "long range". But against a full volley of a streakcrow? Even if the AMS destroys one or two (which is the best you can hope for) there are 28 still coming at you and you're obliterated all the same.
my Crab with 2 x AMS + skill boost - show very good effectiveness in last New Year event, in Scouting. In few matches it destroyed over 150 missiles (ATMs and Streaks), so I just some wounded , and just destroy enemies
