4 new resistance mechs were announced today! Wolfhound, Crab, Black Knight and Mauler! Like the Clan Pack 3, you can get a fourth variant of each mech, if you preorder before may 31st. There is just one thing I can say: Nothing new or special. Wolfhount looks very similar to the Panther, but nearly as many energy hardpoints (most in the torsos) and the samespeed as the Firestarters. Crab is a fresh new look in the medium section, but all variants have just many energy hardpoints (5-6) and nothing else. Black Knight is a Grashopper (also similar look) with even more energy hardpoints and no jumpjets. Except the Mauler, which has really nice ballistic, missile and energy hardpoints, but the four variants aren`t really different. And: NO ECM capable (heavy) mech... thought there was a Black Knight variant with an ECM hardpoint in lore. Source: https://mwomercs.com/resistancetwo
Wolfhound seems a bit uninspired. Crab looks nice, may have high hardpoint. But in the end it is just an energy boat. I guess it is ok though. Baltimore Knight seems OK, wonder how the shield arm would work. NINE Energy hardpoints! Mauler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Actually it seems nice with me. And I am sure the hardpoints can be put to good use. Something like a faster KGC with a lighter weapon.
I wonder if you lot are moaning for the sake of it... those Mauler hardpoints are enough to make me want to run assaults again..... All their recent packs have had ok quirks so hoping...
Interesting, the Wolfhound WLF-1 will be the fastest 35-tonner on the field, being able to sport a 315 engine. With 5 energy hardpoints, it should be at hit and runs, though it would be nice to know what size archetype it is. The CRB-20 is another interesting beast with a high engine cap. With an XL350, Endo, and FF, you can get up to 17 tons of free weight. That's enough for a 2xLPL + 3xML laser vomit build running at nearly 125 km/h after speed tweak. And then there's the BL-7-KNT-L with a max 385 engine, which is faster than the Timberwolf, and can mount 8 energy weapons. It will probably be scary to run with and XL though, and going with a 50.5 ton STD engine will let you mount maybe 8 ML effectively. The Maulers will be the same speed as the Highlanders with 325 max engines for a top speed of 64.4 km/hr. Gotta say I'm surprised there are no jump capable mechs in the bunch, though.
so.much.energy. No doubt our quirk overlords will make us run them differently. One can hope they pick decent weapon specific ones to boost. That poor Crab nose is going to make every other mech laugh as they hit it like a bullseye. Or maybe FS/Jenners will facehug it and the crab will never even know it's there under their nose. Is the black knight supposed to look like a grasshopper with it's wings clipped?
No mech in the pack has JJs. Wolfhound, good laser vomit, might have quircks similar to grasshopper, but is a heavier commando (ie, no JJs) Crab reminds me a bit of the Cauldron Born... So could be very viable. Blacknight, hard to tell, most hard points look to be fairly low for a heavy, could suffer from Dragon syndrome. Mauler, quad ballistic hardpoints, will out dakka the Banshee, and will have better convergence than the King Crab. Over all, best mech in the pack. Probably will have quad missile hardpoints too for one of the variants, so could out DPS a splatterpult as well.
I stand corrected, i didn't look at the various variants since they weren't posted here, so didn't know which were in the pack. Sarna does mention that Crab-27sl has JJs. So only 1 Crab has JJs?
yeah, just the one of them has JJs. No ECM. I'm amused at all the laser vomit. Maybe that's what was meant when PGI said they were tired of all the clan lasers. All of the mechs look at least useable and fill some tonnage holes in my lineup, so I'll be picking up the whole package. Depending on the quirks these mechs could be amazing. Wolfhound: Perhaps an alternate mech to the Firestarter that could be viable on the battlefield. Problems seem to be the lack of jumpjets and the fact that all the weapons seem clustered on the torso. Crab: at worst it's a new looking IS medium. All of them have a head mounted energy hardpoint, so poking will definitely be a thing. Black Knight: I'm seriously hoping it's not as fragile looking as the Grasshopper is. The hardpoints as pictured make it look like a phenomenal brawling mech. I'm definitely excited about this mech. Mauler: I'm looking at the hardpoint layout and the picture and I can't wait to find out more about this mech. The opportunities for boating all sorts of weapons could be astounding. And even if they aren't, the layout looks almost perfect for a brawling assault. And I'm a huge fan of brawling assaults.
If the Burger King...er...Black Knight is as "fragile" as my Grasshoppers have been, I'll pilot them all day My GHRs have tanked damage like beasts... As for the package. Well. [mutters] [incoherent cursing] [Gavin screaming]
They may or may not actually be. I've never piloted one. They just look lanky and bad to me. They may be really good, but I just despise the way they look. -edit- Every time I see one m only thought is "Jeez! Someone give that mech a sammich!"
Hehe, just enjoy the way your enemies look at they explode during their inept attempts to kill your mech instead
Sigh...I reached for my wallet. I fall for this every time. #stillafool And yes, I did it early so I got the free JM Champ on Tuesday too.
Only thing that slightly interests me is the Mauler. But at USD 35 a la carte? Probably not... I'll rather play the hell out of my full wave 3 mechs.
