Hm the question is, if this is really the right way to balance that problem.

The main reson is that there are too many IS only players (because most new players don't want to/cant invest in the expensive Clan mechs / dropdecks). So there are gonna be more Clan-Wins (in Matches) and the IS will still win planets, but not so fast anymore.

Well, a tooled out stormcrow is only around 14 million cbills! You only need 3 of them and a timberwolf only at 17 mill tooled up.

IS medium would cost around the same with an XL. Remember you have to pay the 1.5mil for the DHS and most likely upgrade to Endo also. (If you don't use DHS then you are a fucking waste of bandwith anyways for the most part, so this convo is meaningless)

Translation: Clanners are terrified of Stalker 4N's, Clanners whine to Russ, Russ adds positive quirks to clan mechs and cuts drop amount. Clanners all agree on twitter its a good move. PGI give the removal more advertising that the addiition.

Coincidentally Clan and IS CW win/loss was almost identical by their own figures during Tukk when IS had 250 tons vs 240.... makes it even more laughable a move.

Wow, so the Battle of Tukkayid stats pretty much showed that 250 tons of IS vs 240 tons of Clan mechs was fairly balanced... so they reduced IS tonnage? Do they think people are dropping in IS because of the extra 10 tons?

I didn't buy any of the clan packs, and I have enough mechs on the Clan side mastered to make a decent dropdeck, but I like my IS mechs more. And it's not even the quirks, it's mostly the long burn times on the Clan lasers that annoy me.

I run 240 but change out one mech for specific jobs that increases it to 250. Having the freedom to do that was very useful.

I personally upgraded from a 55-tonner to a TDR-5SS with the tonnage increase, and going back to another 55-tonner shouldn't be a huge hit on my drop-deck.

The cynical side in me assumes that they're doing this so to get more people to buy GRF-2Ns to replace their Thunderbolts.

Not likely though, there are loads of 55tonners, and people had been using 240 dropdecks before that.
Probably to attract more clan players though.

240 is easy. Stalker, Thunder Bolt, Griffin, and Firestarter (or Raven).

...mind you I'm playing Clan right now, so we'll see how that goes the next time I'm IS :D

I guess it'll be Stalker / BLR, double Griffin (Sparky + 2N) and a BJ-1X for me as soon the Dudes are back at FRR coming next Friday.

Amusingly that was exactly my swap - WVR-6R fast agile firepower vs TDR (MPL or 3 LPL version) slow tanky firepower.

Yeah, it looks like I may have to get into the Wolverines as they benefit the most from the quirks and the Shadow Hawks were left behind. I was thinking about buying them during the CBill sales earlier this year, but I really just don't like the look of the chassis.
