Hey guys, with the current C-bill sale going on, I was wondering what to spend my hard-earned credits on. I was thinking about getting either two King Crabs to go with my Loyalty one, a Thunderbolt or two, or a fourth Stormcrow (to sit beside my Prime(I), C and D) just because I love Stormcrows. Recommendations?
Get loads of Ice Ferrets!! Then you can feel bad and cut yourself in depression! I suggest buying all those mech with a good XL engine if you haven't already. You get the mech, and you get to use the XL somewhere else when you need them.
If you need variants for mastery purposes, I would prioritize those first. I'd also do the ones you intend to play most and/or the most expensive first. I got the King Crabs to complement the Loyalty one as my first purchase for this reason. I would have gotten the Thunderbolts, but it seems that through challenges and other sales I already have the ability to earn xp in a mech I own of each variant type. So I got Ravens instead, and am now working on getting all the Hunchbacks, because PokeMech, dammit! For the future, if you have surplus C-Bills and got the ones you wanted already, the 35%/50% sales can be a cost efficient way to get good engines once you factor in reselling the chassis itself and either the savings or sell-back of equipment. If there's a particular engine you need more badly than certain variants, that works out too. For reference purposes: -The Ravens have bad STDs stock, unless you get the CHAMPION 3L for MC. This is one of the few champs I've ever considered, because that XL 295 is smexy. -The Hunchbacks come with STD 200s, which aren't strictly terrible but aren't usually used either. The Champion gives you a STD 275, which is technically not a redunant engine, but is cheap enough that MC is probably not worth spending on it. -Thunderbolts will net you a standard 260, or a 290 for the champion. See Hunchback blurb. -KCBs net you STD 300s and a buttload of equipment, often expensive weapons. Math is involved, but quite possibly worth it*. *=The pair of AC20s each one packs is essentially 1.2 million CBills outright to keep, the other weapons and ammo would cost you around 750,000. If you plan on keeping that equipment rather than selling, that's like having ~4 million in engine & equipment pocketed. Sellback the stripped chassis for just shy of a cool 3 million, and you're looking at slightly better than breaking even on the purchase price so long as you are actually keeping, not selling, the gear.
Speaking of which, the Huggie from Raven series have XL280 I think, so if you want that is a useful engine also, for those situation you want an engine a knotch lower than 300. For just the mech you would want: KGC is a good mech, so did raven if you haven't already. As far as clan is concerned, no point in getting anything champion-like really: Arctic cheetah, stormcrow, timberwolf are all good stuff.
I came late to the game but finally got my Timberwolves. Original Clan Invasion pre-order, I only bought the first four mech pack. Which was disappointing. Kitfox? Good for the first clan set. A slow RVN-3L. No bad at the time, but with the current clan lights available, pretty shit. Nova? Still a solid energy boat with jump jets, but it's no Stormcrow. Summoner? God... SO MUCH POTENTIAL! But no weight too equip a good loadout besides missiles. And I just never clicked with Direwhales. The novelty of 6x UAC5s or 4x UAC10s was amusing art first, but I never even mastered them... To the point! Saving 10m C-Bills on Timbers was a dream come true! Jumping monsters! I just threw my EBJ builds on there and went to TOWN! Bolts are also a great choice. One of my favorite IS Heavies. Good energy quirks for some and the hopping 9SE is SO fun! Crabs are great if you like assaults. Monsters with both energy and missiles or the CRUSHING ballistics they can boat. Really can't go wrong with any of those options...
All those mechs are good. Though I would not recommend Direwolves to anyone, and in general not assaults and light. But we're talking about saving money here. => buy clan mechs => buy Timberwolves or Stormcrows The problem with IS mechs on sales is that the price reduction only applies on the chassis, not on all the customisation you must perform in order to make them viable. You end up with a 15% reduction at best. For clan mechs, all those pricey upgrades are included in the chassis price, and the reduction applies on their cost too.
I got my third stormcrow to master out the mech...Though it's less common than the D or Prime CT variants.
On KitFox... Well, at least this one can carry 2x LPL/ERLL with ECM (or do AMS build supporter), something Arctic Cheetah would have to skim many armor off due to fixed JJ. Think of it as a Cicada, but hotter and with 3x ERLL and it is ok. MLX got nothing. Indeed... Basically part of the go is to look for XLengine you need in an IS discount. And this time there is no good engine. So go stock up on Clan mech you do not have.
I got myself 3 Direwolfs, because I had the CBills and I had no Clan Assaults till then. I didn`t think, that they would be so difficult to play. But yeah, I dont hate them (but this could change )
Good choice. Mastering (or even Eliting) mechs is always THE best thing you can do for your game. As a new player, this is something that is rarely understood. They recently nerfed a lot of the Skill tree in an attempt to make the New Player experience easier as they face players that have been in game for 3+ years and run all Mastered mechs. I feel this was a bad move as it hit all mechs extremely differently. (10% speed boost vs 7.5% speed boost for an Atlas, meh. Who cares. However, that 2.5% is a HUGE deal to lights) In any case, an Elited mech with Double-Basic Skill Tree efficiencies is a world of difference. So grabbing all three, getting your Speed Tweak and Double Cooling and Double Agility skills at the minimum are game changing! In Alaskan Crabs, you may not notice a lot more than a minimal boost in walking and a slightly cooler build, but if you get into Mediums, Lights, or Energy builds, it will Blow. Your. Mind. Cheers, bud. Have a great time. Maybe we'll see each other in game one day and give a saluting nod before blasting each other to Valhalla!
I'd like that, though I have a feeling the blasting would be somewhat one-sided. I'll reserve you a seat in Valhalla!
Also faced with the choice of uber-savings on a few Clan variants vs variants I cannot progress without IS side, I chose to burn my C-Bills on enough to be able to master Nevermores, Quasimodos, and Kinglers. As tempting as the TBR/SCR/DWF variants I was missing were, being faced with picking up only a few of them vs the ability to actually master 3 chassis was a pretty easy choice.
You know Valhalla is the drinking hole for all the Solaris Cool Cats, right? Seems like PGI can hear your prayers! Firestarter: Lovely, Lovely, Ember~ Spider: ECM, then again not like you don't have it all. Myst Lynx: ECM piece of shit ShadowCat: ECM, fun energy jumper too. ShadowHawk: No ECM, or it would be OP BlackJack: We all love to get a BJ now and then! Cataphract: ECM, if you haven't got this already get it. Quickdraw: Shit. Summoner: Cute, but going nowhere. Victor: Some people like this. Executioner: MASC, but not much otherwise. Highlander: Is still playing IIC
I'm having some trouble here too. The Highlander's on sale, and I'm tempted to buy the 733. However, I'm also interested in the Stalker 5M and the Atlas DDC.... I'm not out too much money if it turns out I don't like it due to the sale, I really like LRM's, and the Highlander and Stalker can also serve as LRM mechs without screwing the team over too much with tonnage. What do you guys think? Buy the Highlander while it's on sale,, or keep saving and get a DDC or a Stalker?
@Jessica Stark I'm not an Assault pilot, so I don't know if this is good advice, but I had a relatively easy time running The Stalker -vs- the DDC or the Highlander for that matter (easier learning curve maybe). If you go with the Stalker, you can always lvl with the Misery and one other.... IMO the Misery is a fun mech to run, and a hard egg to crack. Others may debate this, just my experience.
Stalker is much better, and fits a Stark better. Stalk series is worth it in general. The DDC is not bad, and would look spiffy in your red wedding though. But there are only a couple good atlas. THAT SAID, a 3million cbills discount is a whole lot. It is always good to take advantage of them. I wish I could...
