Source: [Link] Its that time of the month again, preview time! This week we got some big things coming on its way, and some big surprises. Lets dive into this shall we. Lets first talk about the big question and biggest surprise which came from this information. No Orion?! Yeah, so it seems that the Orion got pushed back a bit longer, about 3-4 months according to Bryan. Instead this month we are expecting something new, the Quickdraw! "This has to be some sort of mistake!" I yelled internally as I quickly began to open thousands of tabs in chrome looking for answers. The answer I found was right from Bryan who stated that the Quickdraw is "No mistake. We just haven't shown you the art yet." [source] This is very interesting for now we know that there will now be another set of at least 4 more IS mechs. The Quickdraw (Heavy), Unknown Light, Unknown Medium (Guess: Dervish), and an Unknown Assault (Guess: Banshee). There also comes the talk about what version of the Quickdraw will we see? I will touch on the variants that I think we will see more in depth when we actually get the concept art for the Quickdraw. Lets move on to some of the other things going on this month. This patch (the 4th) we saw the introduction of the FireBrand, the Hero Jagermech. This mech sports not only a badass paintjob but it also has 6 Laser and 2 Ballistic slots. Not only does it have a badass loadout and hardpoints but it can also mount a 340 engine, making it the fastest of the Jagermech variants. This mech can be yours for only 4,875 MC (meaning if you have no MC laying around, you will need to pick up the $30 6,500 MC package). Champion 'Mech of the Month - the Hunchback-4P... bla bla bla Champion mechs bla bla bla next topic! On the 25th of this month we will see a special mech introduced - "Sarah's Mech" - now for those who do not know this is the story of Sarah. Now this could be interesting - I for one am perfectly alright with the idea of a mech dedicated as long as all the proceeds and money that people pay for it go 100% to charity. I know if that is the case - I will be picking one up. HSR Missiles on its way - After missing last month by I think a day or two, HSR Missiles are finally here. Hopefully this HSR will be a good fix for the missiles and we will see missiles where they should be. Personally I hope SRM's get fixed over LRMs... If you are a WW2 buff the Sherman paint scheme is out with todays patch (4th) and on the 18th we will be able to have a Spider in our mech. Why would anyone want a spider in their mech anyways? The got like a million eyes and 8 legs and are abominations sent by Luci- oh what's this? My mistake it seems that they are not actual spiders but rather the Spider battlemech... ignore previous comments. Final big news is not for this month but rather July. We just got word that 12 v 12 is coming out in the first patch of July - which would be July 2nd assuming that everything goes A-ok and Canada day does not disrupt anything. This is everything that caught my eye in this month's content update, was really hoping to hear about some more of the new maps because I believe that "Volcano" is still the next map to be released! Not a fan of the Quickdraw to be honest. Without ingame rear fire arcs this mech really has nothing that makes it stand out.
Wait, I want to hear more about this champion hunchback. Just kidding! HSR missiles sounds nice, but I hope they fix hit registry on everything. A lot of my failed-to-register hits are against mechs standing still, which HSR shouldn't affect. Any details as to what will be on the Jenner, or are we still in a wait-and-see mode?
Time-shifted Stone Rhino or go home ;D I think the only thing I'm kinda excited to see come out is this Jenner Hero mech. Could be a really good mech for a really good cause, double win-mode. I could care less about more IS mechs coming out; Atlases are out, let's move on .
Quickdraw, weeee. A 60 ton medium mech, well, now I've seen that. Moving on. Firebrand, I might buy it, provided they make an MC sale, otherwise I'll pass. I need to make sure that I have some budget left for the Shadow Cat Hero Mech ...
Some of these sudden push backs and changes make me raise an eyebrow. I am not Canadian but most of my family has died of cancer and figure I will be no different. If 100% of the proceeds go to anyone fighting the good cancer fight in any country I will certainly pick one up. I like hearing about gaming communities stepping it up (such as how EVE will work it's PLEXs for charity) and I think it's just a great idea. New medium mech. Great, now I HAVE to get more MC for more mech bays as I am already full of mediums. I own 29 mechs and 18 of them are mediums so I feel a bit obligated.
Exactly, it's a "medium" in the same way that the Cicada is a "light." Actually, doubly true for the Dragon/Quickdraw. There are no 55-tonners, so the 60-tonners are our stand-in.
Although their CT is a big target, I love Dragons. Therefore I might give the Quickdraw a try. The only thing which concerns me is that for a Quickdraw going that fast, for example by by using an XL 325, it's loadout will be even more limited than that of a Dragon, because 60t = heavy mech = 1t / JJ. On the other hand this looks mainly like a energy & missile platform, so the weight of the loadout might not matter that much at all.
Yeah, a battery of MLs and SRM4s won't be hampered by weight restrictions. That said, you bring up a good point regarding inefficiency of JJ lower on a weight class. With 4x JJs equipped at the higher end of the optimum speed/weight ratio (say a 350 XL with Endo-Steel and near-full armor) the QD will have 18.5 tons available, whereas a Trebuchet with a 295 XL (lower end of the 50-ton optimum) would have 20 tons left. Even though it should jump up in free weight from 50- to 60-tons at around the 104-105 mark, it jumps down when JJs are factored in. That said, with a 300 XL, this thing will definitely be an increase over the 50 tonners, and if you ignore JJs and just use this for the hardpoints, it will be pretty decent as well.
