Updating this fit with the new smurfy system and a new discription to boot

This mech was built because I realized that all 4 laser hard points are on the arms. That got me wondering what I could do with that and what role this mech would fill. Actually It makes this guy very good in a support or defense role.

Weather it is on the ground marching up and laying down constant laser fire or standing on a hill firing down at mechs who cant pitch their guns up high enough to hit it in a more defensive role. In this mech you are going to stay off to the side and not go trade paint with the first assualt that you see. Come to think of it given damage potential and the nature of it's weapons this could be a command mech with the proper modules in place. At any rate now the build.

Heat will be an issue for you on this build. I run a similar build on a K. Same energy weapons, but with 18 DHS, Gauss, 1 SRM6 and it still gets pretty hot.

I would replace the AC20 with a Gauss and perhaps lose the Artemis. Artemis is not worth the tonnage/slot trade off IMO.

Artemis with SRM6 is evil. Certainly worth the tradeoff.

Agree about the gauss, artemis on srms is good though. Nice build.

Why would I replace the AC20 with Gauss? 5 more damage for a bit of heat (Not planning to snipe with this thing) I believe that I may be missing something.

Also, Iv tested the Artemis ....on a version of the chunker atlas in the atlas section.....It makes the spread close to the same as LBX spread....witch is a massive improvement.

Artemis gives what 20% better spread? I don't use them at the range where this comes into play. So not worth it for me. I'd rather carry more ammo or heatsinks.

AC/20 velocity/range/heat is 750/810/6. Gauss is 1200/1980/1. I snipe and brawl with Gauss, just prefer it. And it allows me to fire lasers/srm more often, keeping DPS up in a fight. Although the Gauss is more delicate than the AC/20 and may get knocked out faster.

Ahhh....20% better spread means that while you are moving in you can start hitting head or CT with greater accuracy instead of spraying SRMs all over the torso and most likely the arms.

I have used a group of 3 SRM6+Artemis on an atlas and the difference between 3 SRM6 without and with is the difference between putting 90% dmg on the torso section that you are aiming at and half depending on distance and a couple other factors. I will say that the price is amazingly high but I run an Assault mech ....I do not expect it to be cheap and I do not expect to profit to much from it without a pre made to back me up.

Bear in mind the 20% better spread should be on the radius not diameter, meaning the difference between landing half your SRMs at 50m and landing all but 1-2 of them. I agree that the AC20 creates a lot more heat than the Gauss and I would personally prefer the Gauss, the sheer psychological effect of a 20 would make somebody feel like they were getting hit by all that AND the kitchen sink to boot...

    this is my fave atlas..
    used this atlas with:
    1 gauss 2ammo
    2 ErPPC
    2 ErLL
    engine XL 350 (equipped 4 dhs) 57kmh +10% = 61kmh
total of 19dhs with efficiency of .93.. the heat problem isnt big deal since the erppcs&gauss fire as a shure shot. When need it, fire gauss only.. 2 erLL at hand keep small mech off easy

Sweet you should post that one on Mech Specs or something ;)

What though, might you think about the load out that this thread was created for ?

The two tons of AC-20 ammo in the CT scares me.

That is a drawback and there are 2 crit slots in the right torso but no room or tonnage for case.

I'd probably say put it in an arm instead. Much less risk.

Or, drop Artemis and carry more ammo, AMS, etc.

The lasers are my main weapons....I lose 2 of them and this build is gimped so I am not willing to put ammo in the arm and possibly get an ammo explosion taking out 2 of my weapons bang bang. I would rather lose the AC20 than the lasers on this one.

Also I like Artemis, Id direct you to the other thread that we where having a discussion about that particular upgrade though. Watch the side by side videos that Spectral put up.

You would rather lose your engine to a two ton AC-20 ammo explosion just so you can save a laser? You do realize that without CASE an ammo explosion does the damage that every single one of those rounds would have done to that section AND a nearby section. You are looking at coring yourself which is obviously way worse than losing a laser. What good is that laser if you are dead?

Artemis has its warrants, I saw the video you mention, I am just saying that freeing up 3-tons gives you a lot more room to do what you do but with more and be safe while doing it.

Differing philosophies and play styles I think. I do know how ammo explosions work yes but Id rather go for firepower on this build as a personal choice. This build is fully viable without Artemis....just not as accurate.

How does putting ammo in a different spot reduce firepower? Much better off sticking ammo in an arm unless you are somehow getting shot in the arms more than CT, I know that's definitely not the case for me.

    here are your 2 scenarios:
    1. leave it as is - If you are lucky they aim for arms and your gamble pays off, other wise they concentrate on CT, your ac20 ammo blows and you are dead, match over.
    2. put it in an arm - firepower is not reduced. If the enemy happens to be aiming to de-arm you they only have a 50/50 chance of choosing to aim at the "ammo arm first" (i'd put it on the missile side I find the ballistic side gets aimed at more) In the event that you do get shot in the ammo arm your ac20 ammo blows up taking either the ac20 or the SRMs with it, you still have either your left or right side weapons functional and you continue the fight with reduced firepower.

This is a no brainer for me, but maybe you lose your arms all the time. I can't remember ever losing both arms before being cored in an atlas.

Why not try stuffing the ammo in the left torso with the SRMs? I know the first thing I'd do against this build is go straight for the AC/20 and the splash damage will chew up the CT, where I would aim next (ignoring the SRMs). Also you don't have to worry about an ammo explosion in your arm from a Gaussapult/LRM barrage tearing out one of your side torsos and disabling your heavy weapons. I just don't like the idea of placing ammo in the arms, as I often use them for torso twisting and shielding my side torsos when they lose armor and when I'm not quite ready to lose my heavy hitters. Basically, placing ammo in the right arm is asking for someone with bad aim on your side torso to light you off, and any possible explosion on the left arm side is worse as it takes out your SRMs AND all your AC/20 ammo.

Removing Artemis reduces fire power...Because the missiles are not as accurate so they don't hit the torso that I point at with as much damage without artemis as they do with. Maybe firepower was the wrong word.

Why does ammo in the CT matter one way or the other? Since your engine is in your CT, doesn't any penetration at CT go through to the engine and blow you up anyway? Are you any more dead if it is ammo that gets hit rather than the engine?
