Notes and Information: This is a VERY role specific mech. It is designed to hang close to and Atlas (or other assault) or the long range missile boats and support them against the fast moving light / recon mechs that are sure to come. If you aren't moving too much then you don't have to worry about a slower speed factor as long as you can turn and pivot to where your enemies are. Once you move outside of that role this mech simply isn't fast enough or big enough to keep up in the world of brawling or dueling with other mechs. UPDATE: March 9, 2013 This build used to run the 3x SSRM2 but due to the fact that most competent scouts now carry ECM I've changed that to 3x SRM6. I have also left artemis off on purpose as you want a larger spread; helps hit those pesky fast movers a little easier (same with the LBX spread).
Wouldn't putting in a bigger engine make sense? It you shed a little tiny bit of armor and maybe a ton of LBX ammo (30 shots? Really?) you could dump in a 220 and increase your movement speed AND your torso twisting speed. This thing just sounds... slooooow
I really don't think adding an XL engine would make this better. The XL would make it easier to crit. It is still faster than the mechs it is designed to protect. If I added anything to a build like this it would be CASE for where the SRM ammo is stored. It's only real job is to keep the lights off of the big LRM or sniper mechs. I have gained a lot of experience in Centurions since starting and they are not as bad as people make them out to be.
I think this build could be converted over easily to the Centurion 9-D once it comes out. XL-300 in that bad boy, get up to 97 km/h, with Endo Steel to save some weight.
I've been using almost this same build myself and it's not too bad. I tend to use it as a support mech for Atlases or other mediums. Chain firing the SSRMs and the LBX-10 makes for a hell of a distraction. I tend to think of the CN9-AL as a better light hunter though.
Nope, you aren't blind. This isn't one of my own builds and was done a little while ago. I have no idea where the ammo goes. Anyone? Is there a ton left over in game or am I missing a ton or?
I run a cn9-a with 3x ssrm, 2xmed lasers at 90.6kmh with standard 260 engine, endo and elite skills. Its the mech i get the best overall results with. Fast, cheap, can zombie...until they nerf ssrm...
I plan on trying this build with the new CN9-D that just came out. Already equipped with similar weapons, I'll just drop the LRM10 and drop in 2 SSRM2 in it's place. Swap the LRM ammo for SSRM ammo and ta-dah! Should have a nice quick Centurion to protect my Assault buddies who like to snipe and boat
I think with the recent changes to the game and the buffs to streaks+bap and the LBX 10 this post needs an update. If I may, restoring this mech to its original idea and its role specific mission. Scouts beware!
I love the speed increase but the thing I would be worried about is the SSRMs; they fire all over the place. I hit the foot of an enemy scout more often than anything useful, or an arm and sometimes if I am lucky the CT. Anyone else have similar results or was it just my crap hit detection due to my extremely low ping?
I don't use streaks, but as a light pilot I'm hit a lot by them. They mostly work as armor softener and they hurt a lot. Too much actually. They're basically the only weapon I won't come close to.
I think streaks in their current form are designed to seek out different "bones" on a mech so that is why they are hitting all over the place. Fact is most times I see a light mech they have some type of damage because people are constantly taking snap shots at them as they race by. A bonus is that with streaks hitting all over now instead of just CT hits is that there is a greater chance to tear a leg off. Who doesn't love a legged scout mech?
