After MUCH suggestion, I tried out the Centurions. I liked Blackjacks for the speed to engine cost/weight, but, the Cent can just tear stuff up a little better. The CN9-A is a blast, but, still a little slow for the support mech and light hunter role. SO. Just bought my CN9-D earlier today and have been playing (with much joy) all day.

Not much change from the stock loadout, just Double Heat Sinks, dropped ART and changed the LRMs for 2xSRM6.

I prefer to go SRMs over SSRMs for lights just to save room from BAP and, more importantly, I prefer the greater firepower when facing larger opponents.

This little Shotgun has some GREAT punch! Most lights are fairly easy to keep up with and the LBX is a LOT of fun. (First time with an LBX) I've been getting some pretty good damage, 350-500 on good rounds, and a decent amount of kills. Would love to find a way to cram more armor in, but, don't want to go SML, so, this is what I settled on and she's a feisty little beast.

Hope ya'll like it. As I said, new to Cents, so suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I think you have a great build mate. XL300, SRM's. I don't like the low armor value, but I can always run an xl280.

Yeah, I played around with dropping to small lasers and bumping armor and ammo, but, unless I run into 4-6xPPC builds, it's pretty survivable.

I just escort the big guys, who draw fire, and chase lights that I can knock down quick. But ammo is usually good and the range from the MLas is very valuable chasing fast lights, so I kept it as OP.

I do want to up the armor, but, after Tuesday, I think it will be less of a problem. We'll see.

These things just DO NOT DIE! I cannot count the number of times I've run into the enemy team, thrown a few volleys to distract, dropped to 50-60% health, run away as my team crests a ridge and the battle ensues. I just wait a few seconds, pop in to the scrum as everyone is engaged and light up the night...

"You thought I was dead, didn't you... ACTING!"

Dropped to 37% health distracting the enemy, came back and cleaned up.

I'm so clean the kids call me "Mister."

Last Stalker killed me with his LLasers as my last SRM volley finished him from about 150-175 meters. Mutual destruction for the win. Last time I glanced, I was at 29% health and had not lost a single weapon.

I wanted some more focus at range after piloting the 9AL with dual large lasers. I just missed that ability to effectively reach out while in my CN9-D. Loving the speed of this mech and not wanting to give up range, I dropped one SRM6 to an SRM4 and swapped the LB10-X for an AC/10. Feels much more versatile and still every bit as deadly. While I'd love to believe in the Crit Modifier of the LBX, I'd rather know exactly what I'm firing consistently and be able to focus the shot exactly where it's needed.

So, here's what I came up with.

    Config B:

    First drop:

Last kill was an Atlas that had some damage from overheating, but, his armor was still nearly full. He was firing off an AC/20, dual Large Lasers and Mediums. Bit scary for my Cent @ 60% health. However, using my speed and maneuverability, it was fairly easy to dispatch him. Gotta love the ability to toy with such heavy firepower by simply not giving them a target.

Updated to include BAP to work better with my sensor module... Not really the same build, but, close enough I didn't want to start a new thread and clog crap up!

Dropped the LBX for an AC/5. Better range, more focused and more ammo. Added BAP, Armor and changed on ML for an MPL since heat is no issue on this build.

Makes the playstyle a little different. A lot better ranged ability, but, not as powerful up close. With the massive sensor range, I run this a little more scout-like - gathering information and locations. Also, keeps me from stepping into a massive cluster---- of the opposition! Once into a fight, she still holds her own quite well.

I made an account just to post in this topic. I love this build, but wanted to share the tweaks I made to it.

I felt too squishy with only 288 armor and I ran out of LBX ammo in a couple of games, so in favor of more armor and ammo I swapped the SRM6s for SRM4s. SRM4s help me conserve SRM ammo a little by adding to my number of volleys without adding more ammo. I don't notice much of a change in stopping power with the SRMs, but the armor is a huge deal to me. This mech is an excellent harasser that's hard to take down. Lights run in terror and get chased down, and slower mechs in brawls get slapped around with hit-and-run alpha strikes.

On a good game I usually get 1-2 kills and ~500 damage. Great build.

Great tweaks! I'll actually prolly start running this way with minor tweaks in swap AC/10 or LBX depending on my mood. Great build, Pearnicious. And welcome to Mechspecs! :D

tried this build and it rocks! I downgraded the SRM6s to SRM4s and replaced the XL Engine back to STD240. Got 500+ Damage in my first game. I love the Rumble of the LBX paired with the SRMs. 5 Stars from me.

I approve your build (I'm not a fan of XL engine on close range centurion...) but it would be better on the CN9-A to benefit from the wider torso twist.

I was trying to figure out what to do with my CN9-D chassis and I decided to equip it with this loadout. It's not a ranged powerhouse, but it's got a lot of speed and can put out a lot of damage in a very short period of time. Here's a build commentary video I put together of this guy in action.
