This build should be even better now with the CD buff to AC5s (and make DHS more needed). My one concern is that it is an ammo-dependent mech with (by my math) 63 seconds of fire time from the AC5s and (no jams) 69 seconds from UACs. Good for over 1000 damage (all hits), but in a prolonged fight, especially against lights, could be an issue. I'll have to give this one a try, though, or at least play around in Smurfy with some of the various AC5, AC2, and UAC5 combinations. Hmmm...I wonder if there's a 2xUAC5 + AC5 + AC2 + 2xML build in there...I'll have to try it...
Def post your results as I have a feeling the next Benefactors' video will be Ilya / Cataphract based and I'll be looking into the min/max builds for the phracts.
Well, it looks like it would have much less sustained DPS but a bit higher burst. I won't be home til probably after 1 AM tomorrow morning, so I'll post it then. Part of the issue is that AC/2s are very inefficient in terms of heat, so they're generally a sustained DPS loss over other ACs. This build is probably about as min/maxed as you can get for a sustained DPS build, I just don't like the idea it can run out of ammo.
We are in agreement, holy moly! LOL Anything that is completely ammo dependent is just asking to get hung out to dry; ESPECIALLY when 12v12 comes out.
I did a similar build off this. I couldn't afford the XL engine, don't like the vulnerability of them anyway. This build is great for backing up an Atlas or other slow moving group. I put the cannons on chain fire and never stop firing at a targets in range. Have them all grouped for an Alfa strike when a back shot opens up. I have chewed up several Heavy and Assaults that were not paying attention or locked on a larger target. Hardly ever have a heat problem. Just don't get caught out in the open alone. It can take several hits, but is slow to turn or chase fast runners.
I decided to give this build a try last night after leaving my 4X in moth balls for a few months. I know I tried it before and wasn't a huge fan, but it may be because I was in a sniping mood at the time, and this build definitely is not for that. Anyways, I tried it again, playing more of a brawling role, and this thing is just ridiculous. I did overheat a few times, which confused me, until I realized I had never upgraded the chassis to double heatsinks. Even with only 10 single heatsinks, though, this build is still a beast, and you only overheat if you go crazy on the UAC5's. Running out of ammo was a bigger problem as I finished off three rounds with no ammo, lumbering around trying to soak up damage for my teammates. That said, because of the low slung arms on the Phracts, I did shoot a considerable amount of ammo into small hills and rocks before I got back into the hang of the chassis.
The Ilya Chainsaw build is far superior in solo queue, but in a formed lance this thing is absolutely terrifying, especially after the UAC buffs.
Love this build, have been running it as my primary solo queue mech for a while. However, I found myself getting side torso-ed a lot. After experimentation, I found that replacing the AC5s with AC2s allowed me to gain the tonnage to move from a XL255 to a STD 240. Heating becomes somewhat of a problem, but the extra survival and range is great!
CTF-4X My current build. I know there is not huge amount of ammo but I start playing with chain fire and when I get a clear shot view I switch to full fire. I think in every mech build you need a weapon which does not need ammo thats why I add 2 medium lasers for additional protection.
