Here's my take on Tuku's dual LBX10 build "The Hobo". With the nerf to PPC heat, I haven't really been able to get dual-PPC builds to work for me, so I came up with this alternative. You don't have the ability to snipe, though you do gain a tremendous short-range punch, and the LL's keep the damage out at medium range. Even with only 10 DHS, this build runs so cool that I've never overheated yet, alternating LL / LB10X salvos. The biggest weakness is lack of ammo, as 45 rounds isn't going to last you through a 12v12 match.

Anyways, here's what it's capable of in the hands of a mediocre pilot like myself (I go by Sassafras) in a deafeat. No kills in this match, but a ton of component destruction.

I was about to post this build, when I realized you were using a similar loadout. However, I seem to have found a stopgap solution to your lack of LBX-10 ammo, which is the main difference between yours and mine.

Basically, cram everything into the side torsos. For the same reason as putting an XL Engine on the damn thing, you'll very rarely die from a side torso shot anyhoo.

Basically, losing all the armor in both arms (save for 1 point) to cut down on the weight needed for additional ammo works. That, and I switched to ER Large Lasers to be more effective at long ranges, considering the build actually runs sufficiently cool. Also; consider using your now-empty "arms" as bait to see if there's something around the corner. Its worked well for me so far.

Of course, the obvious disadvantage is that you'll be losing the ability to shoot far above/below you, but some situational awareness should do the trick, methinks.

You are aware that damage transfers and you risk a lot by going so low on the arms while storing ammo and a XL engine in those side torsos? I'd rather drop some (not all) of the LT and RT armor.

    Eh?

I lost all the armor on the arms. My Side Torso armor is as high as it can get anyway.

That, and no one shoots the arms off a Catapult K2. Everyone aims for my CT or huge-ass cockpit, if not my weakened legs due to LRMs and opportunistic lights.

LRM rain? If just 1 missile hits your arms, 1 pt soaked by armor and then you get 1 pt of damage that can potentially transfer and become a critical. Not very likely but if more missiles come or if a LBX or MG comes your way...

Of course people shoot at them if they see them as a vulnerability, generally you are correct that the CT tends to draw most of the fire but a armorless arm is easy money. A weak spot is always worked at.

You can play whatever you like, if this works for you, fine. I'm just pointing out issues and not passing judgement.

That is a really interesting idea to move everything into the torsos, though I agree that dropping all of the arm armor is asking for trouble since that effectively makes your side torsos much larger. Maybe drop a ton of ammo and throw it back into armor for the arms.

I would probably stick with the standard LLas, since with the lower placement, I wouldn't be sniping as much anyways, though I'll try out the ERLLas to see how they fare.

I had a lot of fun with exactly that OP build ^_^

It gets way better, if you team up with some more LB10Xes in a Lance. Once we had 7 with us, focus firing, that was a mean & dirty limb-o-party.

But also for its own, its cool, i suggest not to run too fast into enemy lines, just be the "broom of death" after the combat wages for a while. The Component destruction really rocks.

    4 Stars.
