So I was playing drops last night and all of a sudden I started to see a trend; people with no skills piloting gauss-a-pults. I mean really? Sitting back doing nothing but taking an occasional pot shot with your gauss rifles while your team moves up to do all the work?

I can't WAIT till PPC shots affect gauss rifles. Can you imagine all the whining and complaining then?!?!?!

Can't wait till PPCs cause the electronic interference.

But yea, gauss-a-pults right now are our primary targets due to the extreme DPS.

I think the important thing to remember is that Gausscats are temporary but the tactics they employ are permanent. When we get a dedicated ballistic 'mech or two (JagerMech for example) Gausscats will become extremely rare... but we'll still be dealing with 2 linked Gauss shots flying at our heads. Hell, I haven't looked at the hardpoints for the JagerMech... can it mount more than 2 Gauss Rifles?

Yes, all JagerMech variants can do so.
The CTF-3D can mount dual gauss on the R Arm and R Torso. The CTF-4X can mount two on each arm respectively.

You know, I've never tried the Gauss-a-pult before.

After I'm done maxing out the Jenner Pilot tree (my bread and butter) I'm going to start experimenting with different roles and mechs; this just might be one I have to take a look at. Whenever I play war games like Ghost Recon or Black Ops or what not I'm usually the sniper role cause thats what I have the most experience in real life combat with (Force Recon unit, CAF).

If PGI makes PPCs interfere with Gauss Rifles and LRM locks, that will be extremely interesting. The 2x PPC K2 (upgraded to DHS :D ) could be a very, very effective "suppression" mech, locking down their long range fire.

But yeah, Gausscats are pretty cheesy. I just wish that their guns weren't slung under their mech, where they're really, really hard to hit.

I see nothing wrong with them, or the other dreaded AC/20 version, or even the Streak Cat. I don't honestly see anything wrong with any of the builds. They all seem to be lacking in something that can be there down fall.

Scary. But at least they're in the arms where they're easier to shoot off.

Good thing about the K2s is they are very easy to headshot... so guassapults aren't really a big deal as long as they aren't far away and allowed to snipe. A jenner could easily take out a K2 as long as the K2 didn't get a good shot in.

This I have done frequently as I face a lot of Gauss-a-pults when doing pug drops and such. I usually gun specifically for them as I know I move far too quickly for them to track at close ranges and if they are left without support I chew them up in my trusty Jenner.

I just wanted to see how the other half lives.

LOL your first post is to call Jenner pilots circle straffing retards?

I suppose a Gauss-pulting retard would know a circle straffing retard.

I, for one, welcome our new Gauss Rifle overlords.

They are only a problem if you don't know where they are. Identify them, flank them, kill them.

This. My Jenner and my Streaker have almost 0 problems with GaussCats.

QFT Every mech, weapon and plan have a weakness and can be dealt with. The real problem is you don't always know/or have what is needed at the time to deal with the weakness. Hence the rage that people have when dealing with such problems.

We should probably make this a general bitching thread for loadouts we hate.

The community seems to hate Gausscats and Streakcats the most. Funny they're the same 'mech with drastically different loadouts. Yeah the K2 is so different than the rest of the variants that it might as well be a different 'mech but technically it's still a Catapult.

Agreed. Now that I am starting to get my skills back under me I don't have much of an issue with them either.

Turn and burn since I'm one of those circle strafing retards and proud of it!

Considering I play LRMs, Brawlers, bruisers and my gauss kitty when im feeling sadistic, or my Legger when im feeling really mean. Yes I know what circle strafing retards are :) Circle strafing lights are easy kills, real light pilots just stay behind their target circle strafing opens you up for an alpha every time you cross infront of them.

I mostly play LRM boats (surprise!) and gauss cats seem to be way easy to kill and I think it is because they are the flavor of the month so to speak. Lots of folks are trying them and there are very few masters.

It is just like when I see LRM cats standing still... dumb. I honestly think some folks have come over from World of Tanks and still have the mentality that standing still is somehow helping them aim. It has to be that or they just have terrible skill at keeping their mouse on a target as they move.

Standing still is a killer when the maps are so small. You stand still and a scout sees you and you will be getting LRM hits.
