There's AMS in favour over BAP in the build because it brings something that ECM not already does. Yes, you need to press 'J' (default) to counter an enemy mech's ECM. But you'd have to do so with an additional BAP mounted anyway, as BAP won't counter an opposing ECM when you're already mounting ECM yourself.

The Streaks are in the build to scare off light mechs circling your assaults, and this works pretty well in conjunction with arm-mounted LLs. Additionally they're still good for additional DPS and crit seeking as well. They won't lock on faster with BAP mounted by the way - please be sure you know what you're talking about. ;-)

From the official forum's breakdown section:

Also, from the patch notes introducing BAP's counter abilities against ECM:

Like your ECM the AMS offers some kind of unique protection not only for you, but for your teammates as well. If it's not an AS7 which got the free space for this, which other mech could? And it's not like it's only LRMs, but SRMs and Streaks fired from more than 90m away as well. So contrary to BAP, which only offers marginal benefits for this kind of mech - remember, you're the one who should lead an attack and wade through the enemies - the AMS brings something completely different to the table, all for as little as 1.5 tons and 2 slots.

    I usually go for
    - Advanced Sensor Range,
    - Target Info Gathering,
    - 360° Retention and
    - recently started to like the new Gyros module.

When piloting the Evil Dude in 12 man groups I usually replace the Advanced Sensor Range with either Imp. Artillery or Air Strike.

I used this variant and I have to admit: it works perfectly! However, I opted to replace the AMS for an extra DHS (for a better cooling), beyond that, increased the frontal armor and moved the ammo in torso to the arms and head (should be safer there). I'm using the modules with good effect: Adv zoom, capture accelerator, adv. range sensor and adv. seismic sensor.

If you want, look my the loadout full and comment...

    Ty all...

Excellent mech. I started playing it and the first couple of matches were awesome. The damage output is a bit better than what i was doing on Ultraman version. I LLasers give a nice long range punch and and soften targets up before closing in. This mech actually runs cooler, the 3xSRM6s used cause me to shutdown.

When I first started running this mech I would get my UAC5s destroyed every round. Then I started just having amazing games. Lately I'm suffering from ammo explosions killing me or just absolutely wrecking my Atlas. The round I just got out of I came out of it just barely surviving with one large laser, everything else was destroyed.

This started with the last update... not saying it was that, just coincidence I think. My bad luck comes in waves I guess :)

Luck is nothing to do with it :) I'm watching the same thing. That's why sometimes I play with another build of 2 AC5. But of course there is less damage.

I'm generally a medium pilot, but I feel like I need to have at least one assault in my stable... and if you're going to have just one, it's gotta be the D-DC!

Here's my "cheapskate" variant (since I don't have any large parts laying around) that will get me started:

    AS7-D-DC

    Pros:
*Significant cost savings by avoiding an engine swap or endo-steel structure
*Managed to include BAP while maintaining armor and ammo counts (EDIT: I had forgotten the ECM/BAP combo took a whack from the nerf bat... you could drop BAP for more armor and/or another ton of ammo if it suits you.)

    Cons:
    *Lost a bit of speed/handling
*Lost a bit of heat efficiency

All in all, I was surprised by how little I sacrificed in this loadout vs. the original post (which is obviously the more optimized build) while shaving a significant portion off the cost of entry. If anyone is looking to break in to assault mechs, you could do a lot worse! :D

Yeah, that combo is a bit odd. Had some ammo combination issues, though it wasn't totally ammo-wasting for me. The main thing was the psychological effects far beyond what I ever expected, though that didn't seem to repeat itself. After further experimentation the LB/UAC combo seems to work the best on the Cataphract, where I have dual UACs backed up by an LBX and a couple of lasers.

As far as the dual LBXs, I've found with this particular chassis that the dual UAC-5s seem to work better, perhaps because you have that ECM coverage & the guy you're shooting at takes that extra couple of seconds to acquire you, at which point he's usually already hurting. The dual LBXs seem to work better on the standard D with 3 large lasers, or on one of the heavy mechs like the Catapult K.

I'll definitely have to give the 325 a try once I have the cash to spare, though I may try the 320 engine from the Victor once I pick up one of those. Dual AC-5s have worked well for me on the Dragon Slayer, will have to give them a try here to see what the difference is.

Because I dont like the SSRM-Lock when aiming with balistics (just blocks my view) and generally like my missles to hit where I want them to hit, I mounted SRM4s. I also don't think that AMS is that mandatory on an ECM-mech and skipped it. Melting enemies with UAC's still is so much fun :D
