    Hey guys, I was wondering if I could get some pointers. I haven't played MW in a long time so I dont remember anything. Any tips you guys can give me? Also, what Mech should I be looking to buy to start off with?

    First....

    http://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/67854-as-unofficial-mechwarrior-online-field-manual/

    Thats a great guide.

    Some quick things though....

    -Torso moves independant of the legs...if you are stuck on a wall...try hitting the center torso buton and then turn.
    -PPCs have a 90 m minimum range....(ERPPCs do not)
    -Gauss Rifles do not have min range.
    -LRMs have a 180m minimum range.
    -If LRMs are comming at you twist your torso left and right to spread the damage across while you are running away.

    Thats what came off the top of my head.

    Thank you. Any suggested chassis for the Gauss Rifles? I used to use them all the time.

    Honestly the Catapult K2 can be setup with the Gauss Rifles
    Here is the K2 subforum so you can look through some builds.

    Also, the Cataphract does a pretty good job of using them as well. All variants (minus the 4X) have Right Torso Ballistic hard points, while some having more in the right arm (IL has one in both arms).
    I'd recommend this link to take you to the Cataphract subforum.

    Finally, I'd suggest an Atlas. ALL variants have at least one Ballistic in the Right torso, allowing you to mount ANY Ballistic weapon you can get a hold of. They will also have Missile in the opposite torso and energy points spread out.
    Here is the Atlas sub forum, enjoy :D

    Although, if you have any desire in sniping, I'd say snag a Trial 'mech with a Gauss or PPC/ER PPC and give them a try. Personally, I'd take a Catapult or Cataphract as a sniper, primarily due to their speed. If you would rather use PPC for sniping, you can take one of the other variants of 'Pult and use torso mounted PPC and have a few missiles for close range defense (ie: SRM or SSRM). The 'Phract is also fun in this department (I have a 1X with 2 ER PPC and 3 Medium Lasers. Runs hot, but is very fun while moving near 80kph).

    I hope this helped you some :)

    You should know that gauss rifles in this game are made of glass ...if your armor goes the guass is almost sure to fallow.....Keep in mind that they explode when hit and do 20 dmg to your internals(Gauss riffles do gauss ammo dose not) so toss a case in any spot you plan to put a gauss rifle.

    Another question: How do I set weapon groups?

    To clarify on Tuku's statement about Gauss explosions, they have 3 hitpoints. which, is virtually nothing.

    As for how to set weapon groups, use the arrow keys to select the row/group, then use Right Ctrl to select/deselect a weapon from that group. Also, Try this out:

    To set chainfire select the group you want to be chainfire and hit backspace. He talks about it for a second in the video but the key only flashes on screen for a second. I usually have one group with chainfire and then another with an alpha of all those weapons. Note: some times it will bug and not work right even though it is showing the black boxes, just unchain then rechain and it should fix it.

    Sir;
    You're probably well on your way by now, and this message may arrive too late to make a difference but as one not skilled yet not lacking for enthusiasm, a few comments to you;

    1. Please don't overlook the Hero Mechs. They offer 30% more experience and C-bills per engagement, more than the 25% I hear some Founders get. It adds up FAST, as you'll also want to build ALL the modules for your model. Three mechs in one class, all the modules. Any bonus adds up, as you have to do the slugging anyway.

    2. Dragons now have 2 Hero class mechs, two of three you'll need to build the modules in, but two with added bonus experience and C-bills for buying more weapons.

    3. Dragons work well with Gauss rifles; they have more armor built in and if equipped with the XL engines can get out of trouble in many cases. The Cataphract class with the Ilya Murmets (hero class) also mount Gauss well. As Heavy mechs, (really high-end mediums...) they don't have the slots to mount the weapons of the Big Guys, but they are great support snnipers and default spotters. Your style of play, I suppose.

    Best of luck!:smile:
