Thats right folks! Looks like there is gonna be another Hero mech and this one is called the Boar's Head. It's an ATLAS! Many people thought they would never release a hero mech for the Atlas, Hunchback or Catapult as that would kind of invalidate the Founders Mechs but apparently that isn't the case!

For those who want to mothball their Atlas Founders mech you can purchase this awesome looking Atlas Hero Mech, the Boar's Head, when it is released soon.

We don't have any stats yet but stay tuned. I'm sure they will begin popping up here soon! So far it looks like 3 Energy Hardpoints in each arm?

 

The missile and balistic hardpoints seem to be also inversed from the usual loadout

 

PGI probably took the original image and just flipped it horizontal so that they could have it firing in that direction?

If it has 2 ballistic and 6 energy hard points I am going to simply fall over drooling

 

Rumor has it that Boars Head could be a copy of a existing Notable Mech from Sarna.

So that would be 1 Ballistic, 1 Missile and 6 Energy hardpoints.

 

Well, I am definitely excited to see this :O

 

Just some things to think about.... This will be the most expensive battlemech ever at 7500 MC (full price)

If you buy the 25,000 MC package this mech would cost you $29.98
If you buy the 12,000 MC package this mech would cost you $31.21

If you wait for it to go on sale it will cost 5250 MC (30%) which means...

If you buy the 25,000 MC package this mech would cost you $20.98
If you buy the 6,500 MC package this mech would cost you $24.19

 

That makes sense hmmm...2 large 4 med AC20 and SRM6 just sounds nasty if it can be done

 

hmmmpf, more Arm.Weapons, less Torso.Weapons? HMMPF! I don't know, if i can call this awesome. If the two additional Energyslots were in the Sidetorso replacing the Missile.Pods, well then i can say great! But 6 Arm.Lasers? Well, you can't run an AC20 with 6 Mediumlasers without Overheating within seconds. This means you need to run it with some cooler Ballistics - Gauss, LBX (or UAC5).

The sad thing is, it is pushing into Battlemaster turf with all those lasers.

Should have removed the missile racks fully and given it two ballistic slots, one in each side torso.

 

I hope they will never create an assault with a ballistic slot in each torso. It will be the era of dual AC/20, ruining the pleasure to play. It was the same with the last UAC/5 buff. Before its nerf, everyone was using it, and I was so many time instantly destroyed. Even if I think the nerf is too heavy to UAC/5, at least I saw plenty of different builds and weapons on battlefield. I think double AC/20 on assault will cause the same problem. And more, if it is only on an hero mech, it will cut the community between those who can pay for this advantage and the other (Pay2Win), which will be a death sentence for this game, from my point of view.

 

Well, 3E for LE, 3E for RA, 2M for LT and 2B for RT... I think that would be good ... Now if they add 2x AMS...

Oh, on the "... replaced the rear-firing medium lasers." comment. does that mean we finally get rear-firing lasers?

 

You will never see rear firing lasers in MWO until they have a system that allows rear view camera without over taxing your machine. Otherwise you would just be shooting blindly.

To be honest, if I'm excited by this news it's not because of the Atlas (I couldn't care less) but of the Jenner, and why not the Hunchy, that should come next.
(I just hope they won't make it a streak boat)

 

I suspect the next few hero mechs are going to be current chassis that don't have them. Mainly because of the Phoenix package, and the subsequent Saber Reinforcements package. Since each variant is getting a designated specialized variant [P], I doubt they have many (if any) other new mechs lined up beyond those. I'll be surprised to not see a Jenner/Spider/Hunch hero mech after this. I am, however, looking forward to the 16 mechs that are coming my way in 20 days.

As for the Boar's Head... Looks like a mirrored Atlas with some extra energy hardpoints. I actually like the ballistics slot in the left torso.

 

hmmm... a Jenner with ECM... but that would not be fair though ... too p2w. We need a raven though, but I doubt it would top 3L.

 

So it's a bigger, scarier Battlemaster? ffs
