Simple answer: yes! in a more complex answer: Original BT mechs have some shaky and sometimes downright aweful designs. For the most part PGI has chosen mechs that didn't look too bad in art and miniature form in my opinion, but they have definitely modernized and improved on the overall designs. So far I'm enjoying their interpretations.
I like the MWO-Updates of the original designs. Just look at some old drafts: Ugly became sexy! Unfortunately the Mechs in game don't look as good as they seem to be in the Posters.
I agree with some of what's been said here. They really nailed some of the classics, like the Catapult. The Atlas looks really good too, but compared to some of the mechs out now it feels like it should be bigger! Personally the Treb and Shadowhawk are two of the worst. Too blocky and stiff for my taste. The Kintaro and Cicada just look very plain.
As far as mech design goes from the Battletech universe, I really dislike most mech aesthetics. I dislike it when a mech is too humanoid with closed fists or hand actuators. Even most mechs with lower actuators I find displeasing to my eyes. I've always been a fan of arms being more of a turret mount than an actual arm. Just a big gun that can be moved around to aim. This is why my favorite looking mechs in-game right now are: Jenner Locust Cicada Blackjack Jager Orion Also a fan of: Marauder Daishi Madcat Men Shen Rifleman etc
