Centurions rule, I voted for Yen-Lo-Wang. I love the mech, and I also think that's how hero mechs should be built: with drawback compared to the standard variants, but with unique and appealing capabilities. PS: you made a typo on the Misery.
Only two of us Garth? Well I know one of the people you are talking about is whoever voted for the X-5, but who's the other? Jester maybe?
I love my IM, HM, Firebrand, and my Wang. Ultimately, I voted for my IM. Out of all my hero mechs, I've played my most games on it. Overall though, I'm happy with my purchases on all 4 heroe mechs.
I think the fact that everyone loves the Illya proves; If you have a Unique set of Hardpoint's for your layout, the more likely it is to be purchased by Users. just a theory, but I think it might be the case.
Started with the Metal. Staying with the Metal. Just now instead of a pretty Guass on my arm I load it up with an Ac/5 and a UAC/5. Looks like garbage from the outside, but I sit in the cockpit so that doesn't bother me as much... I just with they hadn't made the gauss into a specific double gauss sniper weapon. It just isn't good enough to brawl with anymore due to the slow recharge and charge mechanic.
A unique and useful set of hardpoints. The X5 gets missiles and no other CDA does, but those aren't very good.
The Flame is my personal favorite, but I can't vote for it. It has an amazing and unique hardpoint layout, but the Dragons are such wonky 'mechs. The Firebrand is a tempting choice as well. It's probably the best 65 ton 'mech on the market. However, the Jager DD is an overpriced mess. That, and I just don't like Jagers. I'm going to have to go with Ilya Muromets. He has a great hardpoint layout, but that's not enough. The fact that every last Cataphract can be built into a monster puts Ilya hunch and shoulders above the competition. If you're only going to buy one hero, buy Ilya.
Why not? I know that "If you're only going to buy one hero, buy Ilya", and that's what I'm telling to all people asking me about what hero mech to buy. The Ilya is a wonderful mech, and most likely the best, objectively. Still I voted for the YLW. It's my personal favorite. I voted for it just because, despite the fact that they're not objectively and consensually the bests, some mechs can be someone personal favorite.
I think there's also the versatility. Want a sniper Ilya? 2 gauss fit easily. Want a short-ranged brawler? Take 3 shotguns. Mid-range skirmisher? Chainsaw fits fine. It can't be a missile boat or an ECM scout, but otherwise it can do everything you need.
You should try the 3x UAC/5. It's very dakka. Very good range flexibility, high sustained damage, and a "beta strike" is possible with the UACs. Very easy to get kills: pound away with the UACs, not double-firing. When critical part goes red, double-tap the next shot and get the kill even with the rest of your team pounding away.
I have been tempted, but I'm still a bit butt hurt from before the UAC change when ALL I saw was triple UAC5 builds ripping absolutely everything apart... I REALLY hated that meta... I counted 10 time IN A ROW that my Orion was nearly insta-killed by an triple UAC5 Jager or Cata with zero chance to A)Win a fight or B) run away from a fight. As soon as I saw what was there, even peeking around a corner, it was too late just dead no matter what I did... Took all of the fun out of the game for me. I about punched through my monitor. I'm happy those rage days are behind me now.
I have ILYA, X-5, Firebrand and Wang. The wang is pretty much a one trick pony, but I just love its trick. I swing between standard engine and ac20 zombie and xl engine with dual ac5's. I love playing it and my highest damage round of any mech was in it (880). I do more hurt in this than i do in my chainsaw ilya. I was reluctant to buy it at first because the internet said it was bad, but then i decided screw the internet, i'll make it good. Took a while do do really well with it, but worth it. My other favourite mechs are the treb 5J and the champion spider. They are the three I love playing above all others, but my seemingly OCD need to master all the chassis I have gets in the way of playing them more.
I'm shocked there's so much love for the Ilya (or any non-JJ 'phract), considering how poorly suited it is to the jump snipe and hill hump meta that has prevailed for the past 5 of 6 months. UAC madness month, I'd understand the pick. Also shocked that less people picked the Misery, having an AC20 transforms it as a brawler. And having a Gauss... used to transform it as a sniper...
I would agree on the ilya. For me it always felt delicate like my CT is made of glass. more so than any other mech. Everyone does seem to love them though. Hopefully there is an assault hero sale soon so I grab one.
I could have told you without even taking a look Ilya is a nobrainer, one of the few hero mechs that are actuall worth the mc.
I'm not shocked at all. Ilya has three Ballistic Hardpoints and can mount Triple UAC/LBX/AC10/Gauss. Which Mech can do this? -> NONE -> UNIQUE VALUE! Despite not having JJs it can brawl like a Monster. Which Hero-Mech has JJs? Actually the HM, the DS and the new Jester. HM is very popular (not only because it can sing ) and the Jester definitely has it's Fans. The Misery is not very popular, because the Ballistic Hardpoint is on the huge Sidetorso. Mounting a Gauss can lead to an early lost of that fragile Gun. Besides Close-Range.Brawling with a Stalker (AC20) is suboptimal compared to Long-Mid Range Builds. I'm shocked, that you are shocked!
