What's your best average damage for LIGHT mechs

Someone brought up an interesting topic in another post about some general stats and his play being 'average'. I'm curious to see the spread on what us reasonably dedicated players achieve. I almost never look at the pgi stats, but I did after this comment. It's intersting to validate what I feel are my best mechs and usually I'm right, but there are also some interesting ones that rise to the top that surprise me.

There are a lot of possible stats, but I personally feel average damage is the best stat that we have easy access to from the PGI forum. Win/Loss I find meaningless because PGI actively tries to get 50%, KDR is an okay metric, but once again, is easily manipulated by the playstyle of yourself and/or the mech loadout. So, that leaves us with Average Damage - even this has pitfalls for those that precisely shoot at components vs an lrmboat for example, but whatever.

I'll make a poll for each class, but if you care to take the time to pull your stats out of the PGI forum, what is your BEST MECH in this class' average damage (take "Damage Done" divided by "Matches Played").

It worth what it worth, but my best light is on the JR7-F with 262dmg.
It would be great to collect these stats on recent period though, because I (and most of us) improved by time: I collected some data in august with this same mech and got an average damage of 361.
My overall improvement might also explain why my best average damage of all is with a shadowhawk.

 

These polls don't always indicate player skill either.

Anyone can do 500 damage match but kill 0 mechs. I've had lower damage matches where I have killed 3 mechs on 150 damage. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

 

Kill no mechs wouldn't even be a problem if all the damage dealt was useful (dealt on a part that caused the destruction).
But I see a lot of high damage dealers that are more of a wall painter than a surgeon.

 

Exactly, just holding down the trigger on a Chainsaw build can net you 400-500 points of damage on average and 1000+ damage on the high end. You may not kill a single mech however and, while your damage is great, it may not really be all that useful unless you can contain it. This is the great debate "High Damage Contribution vs. Pinpoint Accuracy Killer".

 

Would it be taking it a step too far to compare damage dealt with the usefulness... the piloting skills of your target could make all that damage that you deal not worth that much. Just as the opposite of what you said Michael, strafe by in a light, damage everyone, but that is not always "useful" damage. If the enemy twists and turns and spreads damage around, your still dealing damage, but your target is taking you for a ride. Might as well stop and cool off.

Example: is damaging an Atlases legs "useful" damage? most people will say no, even though there is probably ammo in those legs.

Jenner JR7-D, 280. But I've only played 14 matches in the Mech...

I don't light much.

 

My best light by these metrics is The Death's Knell at 260 average damage. I think I'm gonna be sick.

 

100+ games in with my Spider D, 175ish damage, 1.60 KDR. Pretty much the only light I drive.

 

Grimm - in NO WAY does avg damage equal player skill, I don't think you'd get anyone to argue that point. None of the metrics by themselves are the end all/be all, but I feel Avg Dmg has the most relevant basis since I had to pick one for the poll.

I was surprised that in the majority of cases, my top 3 highest Avg Dmg mechs (I have around 55 mechs) per class were also at least in my top 5 for Avg Kills and KDR so for me the argument of pinpoint (kills with ppc/ac20 etc) vs high dmg (ie, chainsaw-ish ac's/lrmboat) were reasonably consistent both ways.

 

Completely agree, taking out my all-time 'favorite' mechs that I play the most, the newer mechs I've purchased generally perform 50+ points higher than the old ones. It will take a lot more games in the old mechs to even those scores out I'd imagine which is another reason I picked the BEST mech instead of the average for the whole mech class. I also personally took out any mechs that I had less than 30 games (so I barely squeaked in all the phoenix mechs but those weren't at the top of any list anway since so many of the games I was changing test loadouts or didn't have them elited for the vast majority of games).

 

I'm interested in seeing how these damage distributions work out. I know that it doesn't mean much. After all, there are many roles within each weightclass.

Perhaps the most interesting thing we can gain from this is what chassis is best at cranking out damage.

 

JR7-F - 117 matches at 260 damage average.

 

Damage doesn't matter. Component destruction matters. That takes damage, but it takes accurate, pinpoint damage. That's an entirely different thing. If all you want is damage you can just get a CPLT-A1 and a friend with a TAG.

 

My best is my RVN-2X with an average of 393, though only 15 matches played in that one, so I suspect that is a bit from some lucky drops, as there's no way my RVN-2X is better than most of my other lights... My JR7-F (my favorite mech to play) averages 310 damage in over a hundred matches, so perhaps that's a bit more fair of a "best average". That numbers been going up recently since I've been taking artillery strikes and getting an extra 100 or so damage per match from those though =).

 

No, everything matters. Damage matters, component destruction matters, kills matter, deaths matter. And so does win/loss ratio.

If you snipe off a bare red side torso, that doesn't mean that the other people who did damage to that location without destroying anything but armor or internal structure were useless. Which isn't to say that ALL damage is always useful, but damage total in general still matters. And if multiple members of your team are good and know how to aim for exposed or high prioity components, then component destruction and kills is kinda a crapshoot as to who gets the final shot.

 

Well, yes, I was exaggerating. If you strip of a bare red side torso with an XL engine in it the other damage to that component matters, but the damage done to the center torso, head, legs, etc, up to that point doesn't matter. Likewise if you kill a side torso damage done to the attached arm doesn't matter. So what I mean is not that an individual's component destruction matters, merely that destroying components matters.
And even with spread damage there will be a psychological effect for the targeted pilot. That can matter quite a bit, though not as much as destroying the mech.

 

Is there a stat for best team contributions per match?

As for damage, 337.6 average damage per match on my JR7-F.
