Been looking for an effective build for the -1D using the STD340 and I have to admit, this one is very good. I put in a x1LPLAS instead (dropping ammo and some armour to accommodate) but everything is keeps to the theme. Use the LPLAS to poke from range, the LBX10 when you need to cool down with the x4 MLLAS for finishing off work. Great mech. 5/5
The LL has much more range than the LPL, and you're using the LPL to 'poke from range'? For the same heat you get an ERLL. I'm running something similar but more punchy and hotter if you alpha: http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=119&l=c8ca90d4a7925ad5f089a1c8c3779f8536a93133 If you stick to LL beyond 300 m and ML within 300 m, you're fine. LBX10/MG when you need em. 2LL+LBX10+2MG gives 54% heat efficiency without pilot skills 3ML+LBX10+2MG gives 60% HE. To potential alpha and sustained ranged damage is much higher though, and I've got the elite efficiencies, so I'll stick to my variant. If you want to try it out but are still worried about the heat, You have near-max armor and you can certainly drop some off the legs for an extra DHS. If that is still not enough, try this here: http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=119&l=256ee1b6b1b1a3f910feec1bc2666dec66f4954a I personally run the STD325 version because I have one and this is the only build I use it in, plus it helps me when I get tired and too triggerhappy.
You be surprised what I term as 'long range' considering that I normally brawl with AC/20s and AC/10s. However, your point is well made. I think I will change to ERLL and see how that goes. My last game with the -1D didn't go well. In fact, the last few games all went poorly: was caught out on my own, pug-mates did silly things (friendly fire, wtf?) and my client crashed. MT
Even thou though your OCD might cringe, it'd be best to put it in a torso btw, just because you get a much higher firing position so it's easier to shoot over cliffs at long range targets
I have been running almost the exact same build, except that I dropped the MGs (and related ammo), switched to an AC10 (two tons of ammo) and have two weapons groups (LL+AC10 on 1 and all four MLS on 2) and I have been cleaning up pretty regularly in PUGs. I will try to post some screen caps latter (nothing amazing, just usually around 400-500 range). I only run Endo and DHS for upgrades and I have max armor with the STD 340 engine.
Personally hate Machine Guns - they keep you looking directly at the enemy while they fire back at you. The variant drops MG in favour of AC2s for range. Given the current LRM love affair, can't run without AMS - dropping it gives you a opportunity for more HS or a little more speed. http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=119&l=0bf6272139880341f6606b6c24d2e8b8f544402b
This build is absolutely awesome in tight quarters. You can outgun anything lighter than you by a wide margin and can hold your own against even the heavier boys with proper torso twisting. I've decided to aptly name this mech Devastator. I've had some great matches with this build. The heat is manageable (the other variant with the two LLs was just too damn hot), and you can really crunch some people with the LBX-10.
