While the build runs pretty hot and is slow, it has a number of substantial pros as well, I find. It has a long range alpha of 35 pinpoint damage, can poptart if you want that, has full armour, and can protect itself up close with a medium pulse laser and 3 SSRM2s. With a bit of heat management and using each weapon only at its intended range, you'll find you won't overheat too much. The slow speed I find is offset by the JJ, second highest armour in the game and its sniper role.

    Alternate cool version:

Though this one does commit the sin of 2.56 tons left over, but there are no open slots. Opinions?

Try to free more Tonnage for loading the STD300. You don't need maxed Legarmor or do you often lose legs?

It's more a question of being paranoid ever since I started piloting my Locust. Legging Assaults is my way to help my team. You do have a pretty good point though. Taking off the AMS and reducing leg armour to 45 does allow one to mount a STD 300 and 1 more DHS. I'll have to try that before being able to comment on the changes, and I don't have a STD 300 to put into it just yet.

You could also remove the JJ and not have to lose leg armour or keep the AMS, but I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable with that.

You've put your Gauss Ammo in your legs. Gauss Ammo does not explode, so use the ammo in the arm with the actual rifle to help pad crit slots against your rifle. You can also move one ton to your CT to help pad damage against your engine. It isn't much, but every little bit helps.

As for the 'cool' one, STD engines aren't that expensive, just slap in a larger engine. A STD 280 leaves enough tonnage spare to slap in one engine mounted external heat sink, making the whole thing not only faster, but also cooler. You end up with max armor, like you wanted, and also it fills out the 'Mech nicely, with only .06 tons and 0 slots available.
