For the record, we're completely in agreement here since you're talking about strategic, targeted damage with a purpose and the complaint in question is about arbitrary shotgunning to no effect. :)

Yeah just let them yell. As long as you're not hiding away like a coward and actually fighting you have the right to do so. If he wants to play another match he can select another mech.

Also this! I have to admit I rarely keep track of what's going on in text comms because it's not practical to try and deal with it in the middle of a fight. I'm sure I miss plenty of bit*hing about my in game life choices due to the abyssmal IG chat system with like 4 lines of buffer :p

Apparently a pre-made all Spider lance attracts much rage from dead members of the red team, or so I'm told by lancemates who multitask enough to pay attention to such things *grin*

Well, then go and find one.

Robinson Rangers Brigade (Davion/My unit) :phear:

    U.M.A.D (Mercs)

Followers Of The Dragon (Draconis Combine)

Free Worlds League/House Marik Military (Marik obviously)

Com Guards (love the commies, fun to fight against)

All are decent/good units. Or you can find one with your preferred affiliation I.E. Draconis Combine. It isn't that hard to find them and many of them are in the enjin.com forums under the subcategory in gaming in MW:O. Go take a look or a google search, shop around and see who you like :)

Attempting to inflate your damage score when the game isn't certain would be rather dickish. While you take your time picking someone piece by piece off, you could've taken your target out sooner and helped out your team more. Or when your armour is already stripped in a last ditch 1v1 for victory. Then there's stuff like, well lets peel that D/Ced guy to pieces while the rest of my team fights for their life.

Just as people have every right to play like that, I have every right to judge and call them a dick.

Also toying with your opponent can be considered disrespectful.

Well then I hate to say it; I guess I'm disrespectful...

The last two enemy were a Victor and a Stalker. I killed the Victor as quickly as I could by myself (mind you I was REALLY banged up. Less than 50% effective armor) and then once he was dead I began stripping the Stalker from a distance. I finally came in to finish him once I had blown off all his weapons. Even a SPLas or MLas would have taken me down I was that low.

I viewed it as a tactical decision rather than a damage inflation. That just happened to be a side benefit.

Besides, I left a whole 7 seconds left in the match :p

Actually, in the match that I have displayed an image of, I believe I was called a c-word (the one women don't like? That one). Honestly? As soon as I realize I am the last player alive on my team I ignore everything in chat as anyone who matters (in my world) is usually on TS3 with me so any of their angst/nerd-rage isn't really pertinent nor necessary for me to read. That makes them even more mad which usually makes my soul feel all shiny and new!

It's very simple and i don't know why we have to discuss both options. IMO you need 500+ Damage AND 3+ Kills to count yourself a good lancemate. There is no either or option. Only: either you don't know how to kill your opponents effectively (Bad aiming, not analysing weak armor components, wrong weaponhandling, etc) or you are just a kickass killstealer. Be both and you are a good Lancemate. No need to talk so much philosophy stuff

Both are necessary for a win. The valuable lancemate is one who realizes his mech's strengths and capabilities as well as the situation, and then seeks to do the most harm to the enemy and the most benefit for his team. Lights and Mediums can use their mobility to buy themselves safe shots on mechs from unexpected angles, ideally finishing off the most damaged enemies, earning kills for the team. Heavies and Assaults can use their armor and tonnage to apply good damage and control the engagement for the lights and mediums to work off of. Final damage and kill tallies are just one roll of the dice, the valuable lancemate works with the team to ensure that the end of match dice roll appears under the word Victory as often as possible.

I disagree. If there is someone taking the time to type in obcenities over the chatlines, it is usually one or two people, and either at the beginning of the match, or after that person is dead and are upset over it, so they feel the need to take those feelings out on someone/everyone for their dismay. Saying it is knee jerk, typing it on a chat line is deliberate.

From my short experience I would say wins are what matters. Recently I have been dropping with medium PPC's mechs and sometimes I get stupid low damage totals like

It is not so much philosophy as a simple question which has gone off in a few very interesting directions. My style of play changes with the mech that I am piloting; lights are good at spotting and disrupting the other team (few kills lots of spotting assists), Medium and Heavies are best a flanking, chasing lights and disrupting entrenched positions (High damage, 8+ assists but few killls) and my Assaults tend to be high Alpha with some speed (low damage, all CT and many kills).

My problem has been finding complimentary teams - when it works, it works very very well. As a nearly 100% PUG, which style of play would you think works best?

Using this logic you'll only ever have a maximum of 4 "good" players per team and what... everyone else is shit?

To me this is a Great Topic of Discussion

One does not trump the other

Each has its Flaws and Merits

I have been in Matches where we do 200-300 damage on every mech in the team and we win
I have been in Matches where a couple of mechs do 900 and the others do 70 and we loose
I have come to the conclussion that every pilot/mech needs to be in the fight do at least 200+ damage
I feel that if you do More Damage you will get more kills (lol) So the answer would be

BOTH, get more damage and get the kills that come with actually hitting the enemy

Except Lights, which are limited in Firepower and are rather designed to scout and cap, i'd say my statement stands. Mediums have Mobility to deal same scores as Assaults and Heavies can do. If you permanently only do 200-300, then you can consider yourself as an average teammate. Damagescore and Kills are linked and usually should converge. If you sometimes deal high damagescores but making very few kills then you simply have Bad luck, but should be the exception. If you do good damage and no one steals your kill, you usually get the kills. So the OP question is imo rather of a philosophy nature. In the end you need both to contribute to the total team score. Try to kill your enemies, and try to deal as much damage as possible. Aiming only for one of both options then you do something wrong.

I agree with Blagg and his numbers on this topic. Although it is comparative to the players that are on the field at the time... For instance I know that when I pull 1000+ damage with 3-5 Kills that, for that engagement, I am one of the best players on the field... :phear: but it is always obvious to me when I am on the field with better players than me, because my numbers drop significantly. :( Trusting that PGI is doing their job correctly o_O, take a running average over several matches, and you should know where you sit....
(just a thought) PGI should give us an avenue to challenge other players in 1 on 1 combat...man

I can easily acquire 1000+ damage matches in my Raven or my Shadowhawk during solo PUG drops but when I drop with 3 other guys who are of equal, or better, skill than my damage numbers, and kills, go down significantly. All of a sudden 800 damage matches start to be the best I can do with few kills to speak of. Better players will kill more, faster, leaving less for you to work your magic on.
