Hi all, Not sure if this should be here or somewhere else, but I just wondered if anyone has any tips about PC requirements to use as a general home PC, but also for MWO games? I'd have to save up for it anyway, but I'd be looking at about £300-ish (if it's even possible to get a good machine for that price?) Any advice gratefully received. jadefalcon1974.
my computer cost 1000 pounds to play this game on medium properly, that should give you an idea of the price (i since upgraded and play max all the time)
My i3 3220 and 7870 ran it pretty well on mixed settings at 1080p--I've got a 3770k now and it runs noticeably better. I say mixed settings because I never played multiplayer games with all the eye candy on, no matter how strong my system is. If you're buying used and build it yourself, it is absolutely amazing how little money you have to spend to get a solid system.
With the following Components (similar to my recent machine) you can run MWO on Medium Details in 1680x1050 @40-60fps (in 1920x1080 @30-50fps). It's still very playable if you don't need the Ultra High Eye Candy SFX, which you don't need in competitive games: CPU: Intel Core i3-3240 @ 2x 3,4 GHz ~£75 GPU: Radeon R7 260X ~£85 MB: Chipset H61 ~£30 RAM: 2x 4GB DDR3-1600 ~£50 HDD: 1TB @7200rpm ~£40 CASE: MidiTower ~£15 PSU: >500W ~£25 [hr] Total: £320 If you need more Power by time, you still can upgrade the CPU+GPU later. Recommended: QuadCore Core i5 + Geforce GTX 760/Geforce GTX 660Ti GL!!! You mean 1000 pounds 3yrs ago?
I spent about $800USD when I upgraded last year and I'm loving it. There are plenty of places to find components to build your own PC for a fraction of the price of a boxed unit. So long as you find a place that can ship to you without charging an arm and a leg that is. Do some research on what you want/need as far as performance and find some locally based online retailers. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/ http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/ I bought an Intel i5 3.3GHz, GeForce 660Ti, 16G RAM (2x 8gb DDR3 2400MHz) (along w/ motherboard, case, Kingston 120GB SSHD, CORSAIR 750w Power supply and exhaust fan kit w/ 7 fans) for $820USD and I am EXTREMELY happy with it. I run everything I play at max settings with multiple background programs, VOIP and usually a few windows of Firefox open and have never dropped below 50FPS. If you can at least steal a case, power supply and hard drive from an old PC (granted they are still viable) you may be able to get away with just getting a new motherboard/CPU, RAM and a new GPU for around £300.
If you want cheap and powerful parts. I suggest the new devils canyon OC able pentium. It can actually compete with the i7-4790k (new devils canyon 4770k basically). With both clocked at 4.5 Ghz the i7 only gets like 5-9 fps better. I reccomend you get the new pentium and the cheapest mobo you can find, get a gtx 750ti if you have wiggle room get something better than 750ti but it allows for cheap like $20 PSUs, cheap 450 watt psu, 1 tb barracuda, 8 gigs of ram, and hyper 212 evo to cool ur OCed pentium. You will run mwo @ 1080p medium settings 50-60 fps. For around $650 us (if you can find a mobo on the cheap) if not then $750. New pentium is the G3258 i believe. EDIT: But devils canyon is still engineering samples so you may get one cheap even before their retail release. mobos will start going down soon.
