I'm still using my 5yrs old WD HDD atm, but thinking about getting a SSD drive to boost up the write/read speed for gaming & video editing.

Anyone using already a SSD in his machine? What company, which drives and what tips can you give me?

    I need:
    - Performance
    - Longevity
    - excellent Price/Performance Ratio

The Size could be up to 256GB.

Many thx Lan! I will read the comparison site. I heard that Samsung should be the best in SSDs. How is the Evo Series?

I have no personal reference for anything but Intel and Samsung series (am running a Samsung Pro as main C drive, the second will be another gamedrive or possibly a FRAPS disc).

No complaints on either really, they've served well. The Intel's (Picked up five 80GB's for a quarter of the price at the time) been running for two-three years now, the Samsung I have for 7 months or so.

The EVO series are unknown to me, but, that is not a bad thing as I tend to hear about the bad stuff more then the good. ;)

I've got a 128GB Samsung EVO SSD (can't find the box with the exact specs) for €89,-.

128GB is enough to install a few programs besides windows on the SSD drive which will then boot insanely quickly as well (firefox with 30 tabs comes to mind), though in retrospect I should've gotten a 256GB one so I coulod've put FruityLoops and my sound library on it.
I haven't encountered any problems with it so far, so I'm curious about the bad stuff you heard Lan. Mine's been running for 7 months without issue now as well.

Samsung or Crucial. Both have great reputation in the SSD market now. I have 2 Crucial M4's and zero problems.

    Read my text again? :)

I have heard nothing about the EVO, which is good - since I mostly hear negative stuff about hardware, being a mod kinda means you get the negative news first when all hell breaks loose and people start warning others off.

I interpretted this as 'I have no experience with the EVO, which isn't bad because I hear more bad stuff about it than good stuff' ;)

I've had a Crucial M4 64gb as my OS drive for 2 years and it's been doing great, though it is obviously on the slow side versus modern SSDs. I have a couple small items on their and a fully updated Win7 and it still has 22gb free.

On the other hand, I have had a Corsair Neutron GTX 240gb for 8 months as my primary gaming drive and it's fast as hell.

I don't think there is much difference between any of the SSDs anymore as it has become rather stagnant in the performance category. Intel still wins for reliability but you pay a hefty price for their stuff

I'm using a Samsung 830 128GB - and im happy with it (solid piece of hardware in every way ;)) - so I'd buy a Samsung 840 Pro (256GB) or Evo (120GB) if i had to buy a new one.

I've got a 128 gb samsung 840 series and it's been my win os drive for almost a year now.
It doesn't boot quite as fast as it used too, but that could be windoze needing a fresh install..

If you've got the cash, buy one!

Count me as another Samsung believer, running the 840 series 128 as well. Great quality to price ratio

I've asked this very same question over on the ShipSpecs.com site. I'm looking at cloning my C:\ HDD onto an SSD so that I can run star trek like powah!!!!

HDD and SSD don't store data the same way. If you clone it you may have problems. It's usually better to do a fresh install. Of course you can keep your HDD and copy over any data that you need when you are done.
