I'm a huge fan of the LB10-X. Nearly all of my favorite 'Mech builds run at least one (if not three, as in the case of the Ilya ). So when I saw the Champion BJ-1 loaded with an AC-20, my thoughts were: "Heck, no! They've got it all wrong! Leave the AC-20 to the Yen-Lo-Wang; the Blackjack-1 lies under the domain of the LB10-X!" THIS is the BJ-1 that really smarts! A quick sample from one of last-night's games. Use the mediums to open up that XL side torso, then blast it off with a couple well placed rounds from the LB10. It's that simple.
Hmmm.... maybe? It's hard to give up the AC20 addiction once it has set in, but, you're right, the LB10-X is a great finisher to the 4 MLas. I just find that I'm usually disappointed with the buckshot every time I try to give it a go again. It is becoming more and more apparent, however, that the BJ-1's sweet spot is one giant ballistic with laser support, though. That second ballistic spot is just for show!
*BUMP* And it's still awesome! "OK," you ask, "but can it ever beat the AC-20 build?" You'd better believe it! http://www.imageurlhost.com/images/d1konfb4wr1ba8jxox.jpg[/img] (Both the other BJ-1s were running AC-20s. LB10-X conquers. )
I share your LBX affinity, my friend! However, I have never tried one on a Jack, for some reason... I shall give her a go very soon. However, I'll drop one heat sink for max flight time and shift the armor a bit to my person preference. It'll look about like this: Might even have to go down to a TERRRRRRRIBLE 43% heat efficiency to bump up to 60 rounds of LBX. (I love those long-range scatter shots that just get mechs to hesitate for a moment and find cover as we position) We shall soon see, my comrades! Chatt.
How are the 11 heat sinks working out for you, Capt? I was thinking of trying this build out, but stripping off a DHS and a JJ and slapping AMS into it. I've almost built up the courage to try out non-ECM mechs in this current meta, so I figured I would run one of my favorite mechs...
11 DHS are just fine! I occasionally chain-fire the MLas, but, I've got enough LBX to keep intimidation up!
STD engine BJ-1's are significantly tankier, and this build definitely profits lategame when mechs will be more cored. AMS variant shown as a nod to LRMageddon, plus the mech was 2 slots and 1.5 tons light with the STD 200 and the STD 205 is a ripoff.
This build is stellar! I've been running this tonight and it has been a killing machine. I am using the variant that trades in a DHS for two JJs - which have saved my ass twice so far. Also, the 45 shots have been enough for me so no need for another ton of ammo. Ful stars from me.
Lately pinpoint meta have been worse than before and Blackjacks side torso does take a hit quite easily. For some reason missiles that hit back, often damage front side torsos also. XL-engine has become too risky. So I checked what can be done with standard engines. To my surprise, my favorite loadout LBX+4ML is doable with standard engines also. Some compromises is required though. This basic loadout is compromise. Ammo is dropped to 2,5 tons (half ton ammo is probably added in next patch and is already available in smurfy), engine standard 225 and some armour shaved from head and legs. At current meta I don't usually survive long enough to use more ammo, usually 2 tons is enough if you don't waste it scratching enemy from long range. If you drop half ton ammo+JJ, both JJ's or JJ+some more armour you can use STD235 or add DHS or AMS. What ever you prefer. I would not drop engine below 225. Blackjack is fragile and it's max engine is just enough for it. It's not fast even at max engine, but small and evasive when elited.
My version: Who needs more DHS? I just carry ams and more JJs. Truly love the build though. Ac20 was just a bit too heavy for BJ imho (because i always carry ams so couldnt fit much ac20 ammo). I avg 350 dmg a game. If i do well i get in 600s. You are putting up numbers like what i do in my BJ1.
I was having a blast in this thing last night... But, I bumped up to MPLs and watched heads roll. LOVE IT!
