Had fairly good success with this build, as it can deal substantial damage at all ranges, but have to be careful at brawling distance due to fragility of the XL engine, which is why I try to team up with a medium or heavy in case we get swarmed by lights...and as Atlas pilots, we all know what that feels like! *I listed my prefered weapon groupings, 1,2,3 being on the mouse with 4 fired from keyboard Basic premise, with LRM's chain fired, it's a case of move forward slowly, and keep firing, with only 5 tons of ammo you have to make the shots count, so don't fire on the targets that keep flitting in and out of lock, if you have a stationary target at range you can add the Guass to the mix. The MPL & SRM is purely for some firepower at close range, which the majority of LRM heavy builds lack. Even though it only has 20 sinks, usless you start using the LRMS in the 180m-250m range, where the other weaponry comes into play, it stays surprisingly cool, the low heat Gauss being the big contributor there (I previously had it fitted with an AC10, and some extra sinks, but things got very hot in tense situations), and only using the SRM's at point blank range (limited ammo), when you can guarantee a hit. I've found this build to be effective as a solo player, and in a team drop, and can lay down some serious damage. Regards Relic1701 EDIT: Since the introduction of ECM & the changes regarding the Gauss Rifle, I have not updated this build. At this time I'm not even piloting any of my Atlases, so this may take a while
I don't think I have ever come across a build like this. I imagine it is quite the beast at long ranges and not incapable at medium to short ranges. Interesting. Will have to wait till some folks try it and see how it works out as I'm not really an assault pilot.
I think I may build this one out and see what happens hehe....looks like fun and LRMs on an Atlas that isn't just a Missile Boat? *GASP*
I'd drop the srms for more lrm ammo and heatsinks. Generally XL engines are not a good idea on atlas but if you can make it work then more power to you I guess. At the very least no one will suspect it
The SRM's are purely to give some more close range punch. As to the XL situation, I realise it's not the brightest idea, but due to the way I use it, I can avoid the majority of close quarter engagements and still dish out plenty of damage, if they do decide to close...as with most things in this game, it's the risk/reward situation, and in this case, I favour the reward over the risk on this build
I second the sentiment on the XL engine. No use carrying short range weapons (pulses, SRMs) if you're going to explode from any serious torso shots. Just my opinion though, I'm used to brawler kits on my D-DC
Agreed, XL with Gauss and no CASE is asking for trouble. At least you labeled it as an LRM platform, that's mostly what it is since short range combat is pretty much a death warrant.
I have been running a very similar build with a slightly different load out. It has been fairly effective and I average around 500 damage a round. Here is how I have my DDC set up: 300 standard motor 2 LRM15 - Artemis (5 tons ammo) 1 Gausse (2 tons ammo) 2 large lasers ECM Heat sinks to fill the extra weight up to 100 tons. I also have the Endo and DHS upgrades. No real need for the DHS but I didn't want to have to pay again to downgrade so I am using them for now.
