The idea behind this design is to let you fight effectively only exposing the right half of your mech to fire the maximum practical range for the minimum practical time when providing ECM cover to a group. The cLPL has high range and low expose time (for a clan laser), requiring no more dwell time than an IS ERLL and having most of the range. The cLBX-2 has incredible accuracy for an LBX, and the projectile speed exceeds even the cAC/2. Combining the two is intended to let you selectively kill wounded mechs at a distance: The laser starts working on the armor while the LBX rounds are still enroute. Ideally, the combination will finish opening the armor and then crit the components inside. As a minor benefit, the opponent gets a bit of screen shake right as he's lining up his return shot. The LBX-2 is really a great gun for the clanners, it just needs a partner to open up the vitals first. And you can do all this from the relative safety of medium-long range. All the weapons are on the right. roll damage left when possible.
An update. I've played several days with this build and it's a heck of a lot of fun. The rapid jackhammering of the LBX-2 is very nice for screwing up return fire and suppresses very nicely. At medium-short range, it combines really well with the laser for crits and shake. A pubber getting a dual LPL to the face will just laugh and return fire, but this combo often gets them to back down or even retreat, I've singlehandedly backed down 2-5 mechs from the Terra Therma entrance(several times), which admittedly speaks more about your average pubber than it does of the fearsomeness of the shotgun pellets. It's also fantastic for trolling, no one ignores you when they start getting smacked by this combo. Escorting Heavies/assaults is great, the enemy cannot return fire accurately at range. This is now my favorite build for ECM-only no AMS fighting. For AMS builds, I like the 6SRM+Art, 1 ML build. Guards against rain, and you still ignore it at your peril.
