I was playing on my Spider with the 2xMPL+TAG variant, and decided to swap out the TAG for ML. 2xMPL+ML ran hot, so I got rid of FF and dropped the MPLs to MLs and picked up an extra DHS. As Michael aka Grimm has said, MLs are the best weapons in the game. Just to show how well it works. I also had a run where it was me vs. 5, and I'd taken the enemy down to 3 and was working over 2 more before my computer crashed. Guildy said 584 damage on that one. Alt Configuration A This will be my new build for BAP update, to make my 5D a better scout. There are a lot of other ways to get the 1.5 tons between the extra DHS, JJs, and armor on the left arm. There is also the obvious variant of trading the CT laser for a tag.
This is the same build I use. I ping 280 mS, so after Host State Rewind came in, this is a very cool, very lean build with great staying power. I think using standard mediums works well for non-strafing type quicks, because of better targeting control and lower heat.
Yep. Me and my unit members have played around with other builds, including ERLL+Tag, ERPPC, or 3xMPL, but overall I find I end up sacrificing armor (which is scarse on this chassis already) and/or jump jets to make it work. Most of my unit members swear by ER PPC, and I've seen them make some good kiting kills at range, but I also watch them run around in the brawl and fire that pepsi as fast as it's off cooldown...and a yellow crosshair for 80% of the shots.
Your Teammates need to take some time practicing with those PPC's; Gdad77, UntamedZer0, Yashmack and myself have used the PPC build to great effect and with an outstanding percentage of shots on target. That being said, I think your build is excellent and there are times when I wish I had 8/8 Jumpjets to fly with. Myth.
The nice thing about lasers is, especially while circling the enemy, you can shoot right away and - if you miss (or just don't hit the exact spot you want) - you can drag the beam where it needs to go and get a big portion of the damage on target. The other nice thing is the combination of weight and efficiency makes it a lot easier to support, you don't have to sacrifice JJ and armor just to maintain speed. The nice thing about PPCs is that if you get that shot where you want it at first, you don't have to worry about it. But I find (especially in LvL) it's hard to get those shots where you want them, because PPCs have a travel time. I didn't say my teammates didn't need practice
I wasn't trying to be offensive to your teammates...not really offensive anyway. I agree with you as well about Lasers and their effectiveness. The other SDR-5D build I run with carries a L.Laser and 2x Med.Lasers, same weight, spd etc...but a different, more deliberate feel. Myth.
I do think that the laser build presented here is the best all-rounder build a high pinger like myself can grab until Host State Rewind comes out. PPCs follow ballistics rules, and can present all sort of issues when combined with lag. The hitscan on lasers just is the best solution right now for accuracy, especially among high speed mechs. That said, I would like to try an ERPPC build once targeting becomes a little more regular, and a little less guesswork. That damage being applied all at once to the same location makes it a very effective hit and run agent or sniper.
I prefer to run this as a primary scout and spotter, but it turns into a deadly annoyance and finisher when they forget about you.
Ok I am sure many have run this build but I actually didn't see it posted. I use this when I have feeling hateful towards the boring LRM farmboats. Carry 2 tons of AMS ammo for good times. I can either distract them for the group so the rain stops or outright kill them if they aren't a good pilot. Best to get at least a Jenner best friend and go rape farmboats. Even alone you can mess up all their organization. I have seen very close variants using TAG. I know it is very helpful but TAG tends to get me killed. If you team up with lrm boats on your team don't shoot the target you are behind, just keep low at their back and maintain lock. Watch fireworks. Laugh. I use the medium laser range module on this, every little bit helps until I buy a sensor range module. Seismic is amazing as well since you spend time standing still hiding at the edge of building you will notice if another mech sneaks up on you. Last but not least never forget your UAV. Every fast chassis that can take ECM should never drop without it. Become ninja. hear: Commence crazy spider charge through enemy flank while shooting backsides at point blank and dropping UAV. :whacko: Run like your like depends on it, cause it does. Remember to steer while laughing since many of them will have turned around to see what the commotion is as you zip past their legs. I do as much damage as I can but chaos is your true weapon. The kills come at the end of the match when you come flying out of nowhere and core the stalker at 33%, effectively "borrowing" the kill Edit: Thanks for moving this, not sure how I missed the original post
