G'day! I've been lurking Mechspecs for some time now and have only recently started making contributions. In my lurking I've noticed something that I think would benefit this website greatly and that is a chassis overview in each of the chassis subforums. Some chassis already have discussions along the lines of what I mean. Such as http://www.mechspecs.com/forum/index.php?topic=1415.0 or http://www.mechspecs.com/forum/index.php?topic=3681.0 just as a guide. One of the best things about MWO is that nearly any chassis can be used well if you know what you're doing and you know the pros and cons of each 'mech. It would be good to have a series of opinions on each chassis by players who have mastered and play well with it. I know that one of the more prominent members, (Blagg Zear I think?) did a basic review on all the chassis he has played. Something like that. Obviously I can't do this myself, not having played and mastered each and every chassis but I think it's doable. What do you guys think, would you contribute if there was a 'Chassis Overview' thread of your favorite mech? Is it feasible? Has it already been done and do I need to just lurk more?
Well, whenever PGI releases a new mech, they usually have a bit of history to go with it. Sarna is a great resource for this history, but it's just a teaser for the mech it self. I personally like it when these questions come up in the build threads, or in the mech thread. They are generated by users who really need the assistance, or users trying to get the best out of the mech. I think you should start the threads you want, and go from there.
Hi there, Adamasartus. This is actually something which has been in discussion on the Benefactors' private sub-forum. There are currently threads like that for the Benefactors: Michael actually did alot of videos covering several of the most popular IS chassis; he goes over the hardpoints and positive quirks of each of the variants, and outlines some of the best builds for each of those specific Chassis. But there is also a plan (in its earliest stages, mind you) to update this extra content, and to bring more of it to our other, non-benefactor members, so they can get in on the good stuff too. How soon that plan will be put into effect is impossible to say, but hopefully we'll be able to bring more advanced content to the general Mechspecs public soon.
Paging 'Mech speccer Blagg, paging 'Mech speccer Blagg, please report to this forum post, you're on call.
Juse a note. They are upgrading the IS chassis right now, so things are changing. That having said, a small guide is a good thing, specially for newbies.
I think I might just do that. That said, however, the only 'mech I am qualified to review (Read: Have Mastered) is the venerable Timberwolf. I'll certainly give it a shot though. Oh! Good to know. I guess this is the price I pay for.. well.. not paying! Might hold off on IS 'mech reviews then? Perhaps update them as things change. That's pretty much what I'm thinking. A sort of buyers guide of pros and cons. Little quirks that may or may not be noticeable to a novice.
[member=5222]Adamasartus[/member] Hi Mate, there is a recent discussion in the Benefactors Club, where this topic is proposed by myself as part of a project. I like the idea of having a conprehensive pro-cons overview including the Clan Mechs and also all the upcoming Additions, which is a good Basis for a Buying Guide. It will take some time to build up the pro-cons overview for every single Chassis/Variant. And i want to motivate many mechspecs-members to contribute their knowledge/opinion, so we can collect more opinions/data for the ultimate overview. Wait till End of this month for Info Update. Till then you can ask us everything you want to know about every Chassis/Variant which you find interesting. Here is a good thread for recommended Mechs: http://www.mechspecs.com/forum/index.php?topic=7531.0
@Blagg. That link was exactly what I was talking about in my OP Well if you're looking for members to contribute in this project I'm more than happy to get involved. Hell. It sounds like fun!
