Hiya! I used to play my X5 with 4 ML 2 SSRM2, but ECM just kept screwing me over. Instead of simply fitting a TAG, I went crazy and decided it'd be better if I just disabled the ECM for my team and my SSRMs. So I did, and I still really like this build. It's not as fast as I'd like it to be (maybe a challenge for the people reading this? ), but the ERPPC means that you're able to keep your distance anyway, and it's more than enough to get behind cover. The ML and SSRMs are to protect allies and yourself from lights that will definitely close in at a time. The ERPPC shouldn't be used in close range combat since it builds up a lot of heat. Only if you're absolutely certain you can hit it (when they run away or overheat) you can fire a couple of times, since it deals unexpected damage of course.
I'm interested in hearing how this works out for you. I am a big fan of the ER PPC, I even use it on my Spider from time to time. I'm just not sure if I like the loss of Speed and Manouverabilty. Myth.
I'm more concerned by this: When I saw PPC+SSRM I read "I spam those damn Ravens with my ERPPC and streak them". But if I can't fire PPC at close range what's the point... Did you try with a standard PPC? Sure you lose range, but less heat can make it more useful.
Well, it isn't built for 1v1s with ravens anyway, they're much more manouverable and you don't have a JJ advantage in an X5, as you would have with a spider or jenner. As stated, it's a support instead of a lights hunter, stay near an assault of your choice, and kill the lights that attack him. However, if you're able to land a shot with certainty in close range you should do it. I explicitly took the ER PPC for those rare moments where I'm actually able to react properly within 90 m and use the PPC. I mostly wrote that to warn people you'll likely overheat when using the ERPPC too much.
would it be viable to trade two of the mlas and one or even two tons of armor for more speed? If you could squeeze a 320 or 330 into that frame and were a very good shot with the PPC, this thing could be a light hunter - specifically an ECM hunter.
I can't comment on that, because I'm not a good shot with a PPC I'd say that someone with more skills should try it out 15 damage from the Medium Lasers is still really good though, the disable from a PPC doesn't last that long (around 4 seconds?) so you'll get 2 SSRM shots off before you have to re-PPC them.
Take some time to practice with the ER PPC on the training grounds if you are having trouble. Remember that you have to LEAD the target in order to hit it when moving. It is also important to learn how far to lead at different ranges and speeds. I use the ER PPC on my Spider at all ranges and speeds and my accuracy is better than 70%. That being said it took alot of practice and I had an advantage with the theory because I hunt. Leading is also a little different depending on where the weapon is mounted and you need to practice for both torso and arm mounts. After you have learned the distances you need to lead, it is important to follow through with your shots, don't stop moving in order to shoot because you will miss. Practice makes perfect and all that, Myth.
well, hitting static targets on the training grounds is a bit easier than 150 kph ravens when being shot with missiles but don't worry, I'll practice. If someone with enough skills at this moment could try it out on a higher level that'd be great
The targets may be static but if you are moving at 150KPH the theory is exactly the same. Anyway, the training grounds will only take you so far; actual combat is where you learn the most anyway. Myth.
