I was totally excited to drop with Falconium in a game tonight and thought we'd show the evil non-mechspeccers what was up. Sadly, we got completely face stomped. Whatever, it happens. Then I looked at the team comps at the end and I'm not sure if we had a chance going in. They had 5 assaults (3 Dire Wolves) vs. our 2? WTF? I thought that sort of shit was supposed to be impossible under the new match maker. Anybody know anything about this?
It could be an issue with the number of players. With not a large player base it struggles to catch up and just inserts what it can, where it can?
Part of the problem is likely related to the tournament. Earlier today, I was playing my Summoner, and the numbers were 2% light, 1% medium, 20% heavy, and 77% assault. With numbers like that, how can you not see some matches like this? With everyone trolling for kills, there are just too many assaults rolling around.
Well... according to Rus it's not only that but also the problem that good matches play different game modes. So... the matcher must take what it haves in store to put players in a game w/o having to wait half an eternity. I guess if the matchmaker would force you into a mode you don't like/want you really would be pissed. We were a 5-6 man group yesterday. Every second match was a 12-premade against us...... I'm really looking forward to the announced matchmaking changes.
Yeah one of the players screenshotted it at 88% assaults at one point on the main forums on sunday. Many of my matches with people like Proton etc were 5 or so DWF's.... now you know where they went. What were the lance formations on your side?
Yeah, a lot of people were trying for the Clan Assaults for the tourney. There were also those simply playing them to level considering they just released for c-bills the week prior. Friday-Sunday I saw an average of 4 Dire Wolves per match making for some extremely frustrating games. Once team one's DWFs are dead, or mostly dead, it is very easy for team two to wipe the board. DWFs getting left behind like crazy. I'd say that 75% of the rolls this weekend were due to the obscene amount of Dire Wolves. The other 25% is because of the tournament itself and people playing like greedy pricks (myself included at times). Strategy and Tactics went out the window. Everything that I expected from a competent team was missing. Listening to a plan, any plan.... good luck, no one reads blue text. I was actually fairly happy with MM this weekend. Elo seemed to be doing it's job matching a lot of high-skill players into the same drop. However there were those matches where MM expected you to pull the weight of the world and carry everyone on your back. Working as intended™
I wasn't happy as I was stuck with people fighting over slots 1-3... really don't see myself as that level of player in all honesty.
Was the tourney still running through Monday? Damn. If I had known that, I never would have dropped. Also, I thought that even though Match Maker was built with some flex in it, it was supposed to always have the same number of each class of mech per side. Russ' post from June 23rd of this year says: I don't remember reading anything where they changed this so I believed it was always in. Either way, matches like this are not okay and for the first time I feel really slapped by PGI. :/
Honestly I liked running into 3+ DWF matches, but I was playing an LRM boat for a lot of the tourney. And Dire Wolves eat LRMs better than any other mech with their wonderful speed
Yeah, that match was pretty sad for all of our team. Just steam-rolled, no question. (And for the record, it was their 5 assaults vs our 1! Pretty painful weight imbalance . . .) MM will probably be a bit of a mess for a week or two, until they work the bugs/errors out of the new system. I'll try to be patient . . .
What do you mean? It has always been in different stages of brokeness. It is just that it does seem more broken now.
I'm playing for less than a year now, but in my opinion overall the MM is getting better. Just wait until November, when the TBR gets released for cbills! 50% of all teams either DWF or TBR
Lol, that sadly is the problem. There's always a massive spike whenever there's a new mech people are anticipating.
And I will be one of the losers picking up the TBR's and then playing them until I get them mastered. Have 20mil in the bank now and will likely be able to get to the 40 or so I need for three of them by mid-November. The MM can only make hands out of the cards that are dealt to it. I also think it is getting better - the games I've played recently have been more balanced than ever before (played since Feb2014). Most of the time that a team I'm on has been stomped lately can be attributed to stupid tactics like spreading out and attacking piecemeal.
Yeah that's the point. When I got a new Mech, I don't care about the current weight class distribution when hovering over the play button. However, I'm mostly playing solo. Random 12 vs 12 DWF teams could solve the problem. Let them duke it out themselves, so we can complain about the other op mechs again
well.... I started looking at the playerstats yesterday... lights used 2%-3% , never got over 5%......
Was one of the joys of levelling locusts and commandoes last month - I've never got in a match so fast.
I got all available lights already mastered.... so I only use them in 12-man drops (becuase that's my role). But seeing the numbers makes me wanna jump in a light again..... On the other hand, I'm just one Pilot, that will not tip the scale (much).
Havn't played much for a few patches now, am kinda surprised about this issue when I jumped into a random match lately. Is the 3/3/3/3 system scrapped? Seems like the game is back to the old imbalanced ways again.
3333 is off.... it only applies to a premade group. But I've seen several drops with more than 4-5 assaults lately.
