I just wonder what mechs that you passed over before that you might be buying now based on what quirks they have. I have had fun sort of optimizing old chassis based on their new quirks. This has also got me interested in a few mechs that where garbage before, but could be good now. The first on my list will probably be the Stalker 4N. I always liked playing the 4 Large Laser Stalker build, now the 4N is going to be the king of this build based on the quirks makes me consider picking it up.
Not really, no. But it might make me play more than a match or two per day. I've been rather bored with MWO for a long time because it seems like every corner I turn I'm running in to the same DireDouches or StreakCrows (of which I've been one lately, slowly grinding) or a number of other mechs that seem to dominate the battlefield. Hopefully quirks will allow some variety on the field. I have enough mechs that I can play those without being forced to buy new ones.
My garage is pretty full already and having all mechs ready to go means there's a lot of variety included. However, both AWS-8Q and DRG-1N are on my short list for buying again (got basic skills on both), the reason being their quirks which seem to be totally nuts. I don't know for how long this will last, but I think I'll have my share deal of fun with those.
Will make me use more the OXIDE, or my Stalker 5M that I left alone since I prefer the 3F for lasers+SRM...but buying new mech? TimberWolves and WarHawks are coming out for cbills, and that's 90m cbills. As much as you can quirk something up, no IS heavy or assault can still keep up with those. One mech I could really buy back is the Jager S I sold for dual AC20 build, and the Jenner K because I love pulse lasers and it's cheap.
Since I have all quirked Mechs (excluding the trebuchets): Don't need to. But if I wouldn't have them: totally yes, just to check them out.
I don't agree with the timberwolves and warhawks being that much better at this point. I played those 2 mechs almost exclusively Friday and Saturday during the Halloween event and had great success with them and I do think they might be the 2 best mechs available right now. Then I spent Sunday and Monday going back and playing some Stalkers built to benefit from the new quirks and had almost just as good results with them for the most part without the quirks. I really think some of the quirks are enough that it will push certain IS Mechs to be as good or better than the clan mechs now. And I agree with you on the Jenner K, wish I hadn't sold mine now.
My point is, on IS mech I have to use the quirks for the given weapons to get on clan level, but if I use the Timbers or the Warhawks I can switch loadouts and still be effective. I might even get the other 2 novas and master them now that 12 erslas builds are back to 60 alpha. Lights, I got Spiders and Jenners, more or less I can replicate any main feature of other builds around. Here I could go for ravens for example, since I don't have an ECM narcer, that might be better then the clan counterpart, the kitfoxes. The 3L misses JJs tho Of course I will consider buying back the Jenner D and getting the K. When I was new I sold good mechs for bays. Many IS mediums got buffed, but I got the SHDs, maybe I won't be as good in that specific build but I can do anything. the 60 alpha from 12 erslas is really unique instead. plus I got the SCRs, that will still outperform any IS medium any day. As heavy I have the Jagers, here I could buy some JJ heavy mech that has nice quirks. Or buy timberwolves One day or another I'll get the Jager S back as it will be the best for dual ac20 and that build is brutal. As assaults I have stalker that can literally be anything but ballistic boats...but I got the DWF for that. If I buy the warhawks I will have basically a super stalker, faster, more firepower, cooler, with clan XL...I don't really see any IS assault that can come close even after buffs. After all I think clan mechs are still my priority right now. I will keep playing my IS for sure and use the quirks, but most of my cbills will go on clans.
depends. I just don't like my SCRs and I don't find them exciting to play. I'm not switching loadouts all the time either, and the Quirks do several significant things to the game - They discourage current meta builds. Instead of having one powerhouse mech with varying loadouts, people will use different mechs instead, chassis that are more specialized for a specific role. - You will see much more dragons, Trenchbuckets, locusts etc, and that's a great thing. Having obsolete mechs in MWO was really an issue. - It looks like several quirks were deliberately designed to destroy a meta build of a chassis, like the ac5 boost on the jäger6S for instance, or PPC on the firebrand, and other quirks were introduced to emphasize the roles of certain mechs even more (Yen-lo & Cent D as hard hitting flankers etc) Also I don't understand people's obsession with JumpJets. I'm not a great pilot but I can have 600+dmg games in a commando and I'm struggling do do that in a spider. I just love to wreck clan mechs in that thing, it's so troll. Just saying, the meta is worth nothing if you don't like the chassis you're driving. Clan mechs are more flexible (and their variants really just exist to have a reason for XP grind) with their load-outs, but IS mechs are specialized and perhaps better in a specific role.
BFG forever! I'm a subpar mech lover so I already have most of the underrated mechs. At least all those I enjoy (Hunchy, Dragon, Awesome), and I won't buy the other because of the quirks.
Probably not. I don't have many mech bays since I'm poor and cant afford to invest anything more than time in the game right now and even with quirks the mechs I have and like will stay the mechs I have and like. Besides, I'm thinking some mechs can't be saved even with quirks. For example, the Wolverine 6k, I think it's the 6k, the one with 4 energy in the right arm and no jj, will still have all its firepower in one arm and no jj's. Any good player knows to shoot off that arm and unless you're playing with a bunch of noobs they will. The large pulse laser quirks might make give it an advantage, but it's still extremely vulnerable. I wouldn't take it into any competitive match. And that's what keeps me from buying mechs because of quirks. The old weaknesses will still be the old weaknesses.
I'm saving up for 3 TBRs right now, so I figure I will do a wait and see on the IS mechs. If, once I have my TBRs, there are some mechs that have really stepped into the limelight, then I will gladly pick them up (after all, I have plenty of chassis left to buy and master), but I will wait until they are really tested and fleshed out in actual play, instead of just on paper.
Ummh no it won't cause me to buy any pf the mechs i already have - I will be refitting quite a few though. Still waiting on the new LCT and SHD hero mech quirks of course.
PS oh, and no, not planning on buying other IS mechs but I will revive my Thunderbolts. That 5SS with 7 mplas looks too juicy on paper
Will quirks make you buy new mechs? Definitely NOT. NO WAY! Reason is simple. No new mech to buy. Same goes for a bunch of us there. Not feeling like buying duplicates.
Wait what? They ditched the GH-buckets on slas when i finally sold my nova? And on topic, of course i'm (re-)buying new mechs!
