I've done the 3 SRM4s + MPLas, it's not bad.
But the one I tested with the most success is 3 MPLas and one SRM6.

 

Try that with a TC1... it really needs every scrap of combat capability it an and with its speed it shouldn't have any problem getting into cover.

 

You guys are doing it all wrong. Stock Prime, upgrade SSRM2 to a srm4. Done. If you aren't a team player and drop cAP you can upgrade ERSML to a ML and add a Heat sink.

 

Thanks but we want to minimise the pain not extend it. I now know 3 people in unit that just GXP'd the basics to get to speed tweak after struggling through for a while as its so awful a mech.

Not looking forwards to even trying the mech after having been raping them in newly quirked IS mechs.

Amusing when I consider the locusts better than clan mechs. 1 v 1'd an Ice Ferret armed with 2 erll lasers last night in my LCT-1E. Walked away without losing a body section. I definitely knew I'd been in a fight but he had full speed so he was at least basiced out.

 

Oh, I've seen quite the opposite.
Ran a SSRM version yesterday... the locust and the spiders were not amused. And since this baby (IFR-C) is already elite... they wer not able to run away.

The Ferret is not a powerhouse, but it has a purpose.

I learned one thing.

Keep it out of the main fight. Even consider hiding. Don't get out much or use hit and run. As long as the tide is even or your team is on the winning side, you don't need to interfere. When the enemy team is chewed up... or your's losing... go for it. This can ensure you 1-2 kills and a prolongued life. As a Fenris pilot I choose my battles veeeery careful and retreat once I realized the upper hand is lost.

 

Yeah, I learnt the hard way levelling mechs like locusts that you have to pick every fight carefully. Disengage if you don't like the odds. That said the Locust excels at locating targets and tasking in other people. I always noticed when playing in the solo queue the clever pilots in mediums followed me at the start of the battles and then wrecked targets I found while the enemy team was split up. On that basis I'm not sure of avoiding the enemy but I'd agree that the main combat is definitely not the place for the Fenris as its so much larger and slower. At least with the locust I'm out of sight most of the time.

Serious question - what do you feel the purpose of the Ice Ferret is?

 

Harass, hamstring, annoy. First of the mediums, track the prey but don't go in alone unless enemy is vulnerable.

In the world of 140 kph, this might be the heaviest armored, correct? Granted, that is just ten more pts on most lights but still. A pack of Ice Ferrets should be optimal, I ran into three last night and it was hard to bring even one down before they could nibble me up.

It can do scouting but there are better mechs for that. It needs a pack or another mech at least, it can harass and hamstring but is not really powerful enough to bring down fresh prey alone without paying a price.

That and the role of a medium scout. BAP; TAG; NARC everything's possible. And the speed is a force to be reckoned with.

But it can also function like the Locust described above.
I was the supporter yesterday.... in a Fenris. The lil' bugger (me) acted as a constant annoyance and diversion. Every single time I rushed into the enemy flank or even theirt backs, at least 3-4 would try to get a lucky hit on me... well, let's say I was luckier than them.
This gave our front a slight breather now and then permitting our ranks to shoot some backs open.
I admit this did not really work every run, but on most occassions. And maybe it's just because many just loathe the Fenris and regard it an easy prey, that it worked so well. I even came to the rescue of some heavily damaged units providing flesh meat and critpower.

I really changed my mind about the Fenris after finding some useable loadouts. It's fun to drive.

 

I think ferrets are only doing okay because the queue is very medium heavy at the moment. If things go back to normal with more heavy/assaults (or when the timberwolf comes out next week) our 'ferret-isn't-so-bad' thinking will quickly take a nose dive. Level them now
