I was toying with suggesting this before, and now that CW is out there, for those of us not in units, would it make sense to have a MechSpecs Unit? (MSU) We can type up a nice background how it was formed by the infamous min/maxer and StarCitizen Mason Grimm when he was piloting his Super Chicken etc... Probably a merc unit, but i'm open to being affiliated with a house. (Marik?) We would need someone with enough spare time to manage it online. I know i can't, I was lucky to login for 1 hour this week, just enough to play with the KGC for a few rounds.
I would be interested in this, I am always looking for people to play with. But I am in a similar boat as I don't have as much time as I would like to play mechwarrior.
I think the biggest barrier to this could be faction loyalties. People seem to be quite attached to them.
Incidentally, which faction did everyone go with? I'm still a Merc, but I signed a 14 day contract with the Combine to start. Fun fact: Look at the faction rewards page, they all have typos "Kurita Loyalty 3: reach 4,000 loyalty points with House Davion." Lolwut?
I'll be going with Steiner to start. Not sure what UMAD has done yet but I'll have to investigate and dip my toes in to Faction Warfare slowly.
A Mechspecs Unit would be tempting . . . though as Fherot said, that is sort of (though not entirely) what UMAD is. It was formed by some Mechspecs members along with a few others, and alot more Mechspeccers joined afterwards as well, along with many non-Mechspecs players. But in general, UMAD is probably the Unit with the highest number of Mechspecs-members. That said, I can't speak for our plans in CW as of now. We're still in the process of arranging and organizing things. What I can say, is that our latest plan was to stay as Mercs, to (most likely) affiliate ourselves with Steiner; we would be staying InnerSphere for the most part, at least to start. If/when they eventually allow us to use both IS and Clan Tech, we would definitely be going that direction. But until then, our plan is to stay IS.
Many of us have units already unfortunately. I'll always be up for syncing drops though. [SweC] signed on for FRR for 28 days straight, we're going for high LP bonus in the first round and we are after all Swedes IRL. It's also Christmas so who knows how much actual gaming there'll be before January is here anyways.
I wished we could join multiple units. I've always been butterfly-minded on the first place, I enjoy playing with different flocks from time to time. Also my current unit, which is not really a unit, is not fit for CW, not enough active players. I'm afraid we'll soon disband to join larger units. It's not a problem by itself but I'd like to be able to wear the tag when I'm playing with these guys. I saw a suggestion on the official forum, about being able to join a unit (for CW) and what they called a "(Solaris) stable" (for PUG and/or league). That's a nice idea.
You look purple, and you like purple, you know what to do. And guess who get the best purple colored swag in the whole game? You know who you should sign up for...
Héhé. I'll probably end up fighting for Davion, as most French units are loyal to this house. But I'll keep the purple high (and the Marik Warhorn!).
I just wish I could have contracts for both IS and clans active at the same time, so I can play with all of the mechs I spent real world money on whenever I want.
Agree with the multiple units. At the *very* least, they should allow for a command structure where you can have your normal 'unit' but then be part of a larger organization as well for attack-side purposes. Also definitely agree on a Clan Group and IS Group if you're so inclined. I haven't thought all the way through this, but I'm not sure why Mercs can't have loyalty as well; maybe not loyalty to a house, per se, but still 'fame' should accumulate even if you aren't a merc unit that is generally tied to a house and you bounce around. I guess I'll see what it's like to solo drop in CW this weekend. Just sucks that I can't temporarily join up with someone if they need ungrouped peeps like me to round out a 12-man attack group. All the times I ran with Blagg or Dudes or UMAD or TTK or CI or... all went out the window while CW's active
Maybe we can discuss a temporary membership in the DudesClub for this challenge, as this obv. is as team oriented as MWO can get. Get in touch if this is an option for you. I'll h to clear the coast on my side as well about this idea, but it shouldn't be a problem at all with all you guys dropping with us regularily anyway.
Careful though, leaving a faction costs money (if youre under contract), you can't just join, play one day and quit, then join another faction, etc.
Well, could always ask to join UMAD. I'm currently FRR as the icon next to my name only, so I can go with which ever. More interested in having some good friends. I have some people i made friends with in Wolf Clan, while just Puggng, but most of my mechs are IS, so i'll stick to that for now.
