This is my best one of the night... After 4 matches I finally got a PUG on PUG rather than a PUG vs. 12Man Stomp.
Well, I may have just had a pisser. Not 100% sure, but I went into a CW match, had a FANTASTIC match even though it was a loss, was a PUG group vs a 10 man but we still did very well. I was still on my second mech (3L, I started out in my PPC Cicada), and there were 30 seconds left in the match. And everything stopped. Full freeze, disconnect. Log back on and my cbills have not increased. Waiting to see on the tournaments tab, but I think I just ran a 30 minute match and used 160k CB worth of modules for nothing Edit: PHEW! Played a normal match, and suddenly had a ton of CB, LP, and a winning match (I scored a 270 on a loss ), so I'm happy again haha. Also, death to the cease fire!!!
I've actually won 2 matches vs a 12 men, one with my unit and one in solo, but all in the defensive side. But when you are in the attacking side, it's over before it's started .
The problem I've observed with attackers is that they play like they're playing the normal game. I have yet to have a game where I lost my first mech before most people had lost 2 or 3 of theirs. This last one, I lost my Cicada and one person had already lost all four, and three more were down to their last mech. Being patient and whittling them down, instead of just charging in, is a HUGE part of winning IMO. People are so eager to get in and fight, and they get some kills doing so, but they also get torn up. Meanwhile, I'm sitting back getting just as many kills and damage, but I've taken nothing but glancing blows. We need SOME pushers, but people need more patience in general
Probably a 40 min time would help. In this match we were doing really fine on attack it was 35-35 and I have my untouched Jenner F and SHD K last, but 5 min were left and anyone got mad and charged in, and we lost then like 40-48. I didn't even get to use the Jenner for more then a kill.
I am considering not taking my Ember any more, just because it survives so poorly compared to my Raven and Cicada, which both rack up kills and damage while taking very little in return comparatively. Problem is, I own so few IS mechs that I would consider good for my playstyle, I don't know what I would replace my Ember or Jenner with if I decided not to run them If I had a mastered DRG-1N or could somehow drop my Cheesewolf in, I'd just take that But alas, I have neither. Also, something I've learned: make sure there's something between your legs and any turret you fight. Like the MLas ones, they go for the legs...and will shoot at the same piece of ground over and over. After watching my team derp and fail to kill several turrets, I just took my Raven in and sniped them while standing behind a rock. Didn't take a single piece of damage, and got 6 turrets down in no time Still lost, but...
Jenner F as last is my best performer I think I got like 20 kills in 3 matches with it on the snow map 317 range on such a good mech does matter, a lot, totally another playstyle. The distraction shots at 400-500 meters matter too, not to mention that at like 450 if you land it all now you still strip the back armor.
I still haven't ever lost more than 2 mechs in a match heh...if I lead off with my Cicada and Raven, they just refuse to die before the match ends
I've only managed two drops in nearly three hours this morning. Both have been great fun but the weekend simply isn't long enough to get 20 matches.
PUG IS in a counter attack vs. PUG Clans. No Chance. Short and frustrating game after about 45 minutes waiting time. And I wanted to DEFEND... but no, the opponents not only got better mechs, they also got better positions and turrets to help them out.
I don't know. The only game I was able to play was an attack, IS vs clans, PUG vs PUG too. We lost but it was very close all along, and we'd probably had won if we were not playing 11 vs 12. But true, defending with the superior range of clan weapons seams an advantage.
I think it's needed for the 11 wins or it would take ages if defenders only got to defend, or only best units would conquer planets. And I mean needed for the QQ people who want a possibily even without deserving it (ie winning attack), so they get a non-sense counter attack when they should attack, I realize my unit is not strong enough to conquer now and I'd be fine just defending (and actually getting to defend after half hour wait, yeah). Assaulting should be harder, but if I pick to defend, I want to defend, especially if I'm solo ! What bothers me the most is the horrible FPS, I'm playing at 50% efficiency like that. Average performance loss seems to be 66% less, that's very huge to justify even in beta stage. As for clan advantage, speed is really important here, so many IS mechs mount XL engines. Clans all have XL engines so they are fast by nature, but they can drop a ST and live. 48vs48 this is REALLY huge and much more evident then 12vs12.
The closest games I've actually had were IS vs Clan while I was on the IS side. It takes patience, but it's hardly unwinnable for the IS side.
Ahah, wait 30 minutes, just to find out you've got no chance to win as your PUGs are facing a lord premade That was a nice game though, closer than I expected ("close" meaning we were not ridiculous).
At least you got your 80, as did most of your team. You may still lose, but at least you get SOME reward from it. I just had a painful loss: We did SO DAMN WELL, but they turtled at the end, and suckered way too many of our guys into the base turrets around the main gun. If not for that, we would've had it.
Between waiting 10 minutes to get into a 1-sided match where nobody broke 15 match score and waiting 20 minutes before giving up on finding a match, I'm not going to get this. PGI needs to do a couple things to CW (in addition to letting me sub-contract out my clan mechs): 1) Make it so we can "defend any" or "defend all" 2) Make it so you can see what faction is attacking and how many players are queued for a planet 3) Fix the UI to make the universe easier to navigate I want to say "you can tell it's beta" but the UI for the rest of the game is live....
It looks like a pretty nice game to me. Close game is good game. To be honest, apart from the time waiting, I have a lot of fun in CW and don't really care about win or lose (hopefully, because I'm almost constantly losing ). Finally games not stacked with heavies and assaults! And so far I've been in fairly balanced fights.
First win killing the cannon ! This team was pretty nice, they didn't mind push, as you see we were in the 900ish damage with the 3rd wave, we sent 10 on the left and 2 in center, those 2 in center had to clean a way to the cannon killing the turrets. On the 3rd wave we harrassed from the left and core but not kill, while we sneaked in 2 king crabs + ECM in the center (solo drops FTW ) once we pushed and they went behind the cannon is was over in a few seconds Nice match !
I have so far had the patience/luck/misfortune to go on 5 CW drops. 3 prior to the event, 2 during,... 4 losses, 1 improbable defense win and an pitiful K/D ratio. The concept is great but needs massive amounts of tweaking in ways already described and more. The thing is I actually looked forward to this and now that the feature is available, I can't be bothered to try,... I do not have the time to wait half an hour to be put in a drop where I'm bound to be thrown before a 12 man stampede,... Back to regular drops for the moment.
