Out of curiosity, is there a reason IS mechs don't get SSRM 4s and 6s? Or what about non-10 LBXs? My limited understanding of lore suggests that the equipment existed in the timeline, and the weapons are there for clanners. It just sucks for IS that the CPLT-A1 can put as may SSRMs in the whole mech as a Timberwolf can do in one torso.
Technology. Same reason we don't get ERML or ERSL. Clan's are more advanced. One thing you have to consider is that, in the lore, these battlemechs were build by automated factories with little to no knowledge of how to change weapons and what not. Sure, they knew that certain systems could be swapped out if there was enough room, but that was about it. There was very little that could be done about, for example, putting a gauss rifle into the torso of a Catapult K2. It would require SIGNIFICANT work to be done to the mech, and usually result in a faulty system (jam chances in table top). That's what the universe was build around. However in MWO we have the opportunity to slam whatever the hell we want onto any IS mech without concern of manufacture issues, design flaws, mechanical issues, etc. All that was an issue in the lore and in Battletech Table Top. So there really isn't a reason why we don't have them, not a good one anyway.
Eh. Could be worse. Inner Sphere is at least allowed to customize their mechs. Imagine if you had to strictly use just the variants?
This, so much this. Or if you had a 15% jam chance every time you fired a weapon that didn't fit the crit space for a given system. LOL. All those PPCs crammed into single or dual energy slots would HURT. Or a gauss rile in a 4 slot ballistic hardpoint. Be thankful, be very thankful. Praise your PGI overlords.
AC/2's and AC/10's are actually RAC/2's (Same weight and space there...) STD 275 is actually a Light 345 (Because it's *like* a Clan XL, only heavier.) Could stand to go slower for either more ammo, more heat sinks, or backup weapons. 3062 is not going to come fast enough...
Sadly we probably won't see it unless they fudge the timeline.... and there's also the HAG/40 around then too...
What I see them doing is going with CW for a solid year. Then a reset and an advance of the timeline by 5 to 10 years. A couple new mechpacks. Then another solid year of CW. A second reset and they advance it another 5 to 10 years. New mechpacks. Course, there will a constant stream of new mech variants, and also new mech chassis perhaps. With CW in place, and features being filled in, PGI and MWO are in a good place now.
It has been for a while, i'm personally burnt out a bit, so taking a breather, but the game is starting to look really good, and i'm really impressed with the community participation and how PGI is keeping us entertained. I can see a single player campaign based on what is being developed, later on in the future. (it would be cool to re do the very first Mechwarrior, with this engine)
RAC/HyperAC is a bit too soon. Or things like heavy/light gauss, and any heavy laser. ERML should be here soon though. Also what would be nice is MRM, and those ballistic artillary gannon types. Both are available in timeline and are fun but not OP. That would also allow for some longer range missile use other than LRM. I would love some Heavy MG, think they are out already. Fits a nice spot for the game. We need melee... *sigh*
Well TBH MRM's ... you sure they wouldn't be OP as that's a fuck load of tubes and basically people would just use them as longer ranged SRM's?They've not got their biggest negative in MWO - a massive negative to numbers of MRM's that hit.
Well, seeing the number of people who miss wildly with SRMs, I don't know whether MRMs would be super OP or niche usefulness. What about Longtoms?
Well they always were useless in TT its just the lore they had a place or in battles where you could deploy artie from off the map.
I always loved making joke builds in MW4 with a Longtom, then getting close and firing them straight into someone's face "FUCK IIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!"
