Another experimental build, based around a simple concept: Melt the armor with the lasers, crit with the LBX and SRM. Not sure how it'll pan out, but it's an idea.
I'd ask the same...both the LBX and SRM are meant for use once you get into close range anyway, so combining them gives you a greater crit potential once armor is gone. The hardpoints are low...but there's nothing the GAR can do about that, so you're stuck regardless. The biggest weakness of the build is still that it's on a Gargoyle, and it's inherently pretty limited in comparison to other Clan choices...there's just only so much you could do. Really, it's like the Nova in a lot of ways...it just can't handle most ammo-dependent builds very well, and it's too easy to completely strip. You can either laser vomit, or try to critseek and act as a support assault, this one aims for the latter.
It really comes down to my play style I guess. I never get close enough for all six missles to connect, and I if I am that close, I find myself stripped. Perhaps I should do what Durandal said and play a support role. I really want the gargoyle to be competitive.
Sadly, compared to the other main Clan choices, it will never be that way unless they completely redo where the hardpoints are on the mech (it NEEDS LT/RT spots). With the TBR, SCR, HBR, and DWF all as strong as they are, and the IS choices having many superior options for non heavy/assault spots as well, the GAR was destined to be more or less DOA with its limitations. The only success I ever had with it (not that I had much) was by piloting it as a scaredy-cat assault, hiding behind Atlai and Dire Wolves (and Timber Wolves) so that I would have a chance to do some damage before I went down. Even then, it still didn't work out all that well...
Competitive Gargoyle builds are either Laser Vomit, or Large-Ballistic (usually Gauss) + 4 ERMLasers. Those are the only worthy options, sadly. And even then, the only advantage the Gargoyle has over the Timberwolf is more Armor . . . that's it! For the same (or less) firepower, it has fewer DHS, no JJs, and a worse overall hitbox.
