    A good friend of mine found no real use for his 5SS and the 7MPL loadout in his dropship. Also, he wanted a 4(ER)LL boat and make maximum use of quirks...what a coincident! We came up with a STD and a XL version, both are doing really well.

    Relevant Quirks:
    • Energy Weapon Cooldown 15%
    • Energy Weapon Heat Generation -15%
    • Energy Weapon Range 25%
    With the +25% range quirk and ERLL Range Module you can outreach everything and thanks to high energy hardpoints you can hit everything you see . Heat is not a problem, as you usually fire your lasers in groups of two.

    Wouldn't the 5S work better?

    Using large lasers on the 5S you get:
    • 25% cooldown
    • 25% range
    • -12.5% duration
    • -12.5% heat generation
    Same range bonus, better cooldown, slightly inferior heat generation but you also get shorter laser duration.

    I get it if he's just looking to put a chassis to work though. :) But if he has a 5S kicking around...

    The 5S has only 12,5% range and cooldown for ERLLas (25% for regular LLas). Also, the 4th Laser would need to be placed in the right arm. The only thing that the 5S has is 15% decreased laser beam time.

    Ah, my bad, I didn't notice that they were ER large lasers. Woops! :D

    The problem with regular LLas is, that it's hard to compete with the range of clan laser boats...so we went for ERLLas. I wish I found something similar for my dusty 5S.

    Edit: In case the 9S gets nerfed to the ground, this might be my new mech to compete with clan range

    I too found the standard Thuderwub to not work with my playing style and was told about this mech. I started using it about two weeks ago with the ERLLas range mod x5 and Advanced Zoom. Now this mech is a killing machine and one of my favorites out of the 90+ mechs that I own. I use a STD 300 in mine and recommend everybody running this build do the same because it is starting to get popular and the bad guys know to hit the right and then left torsos first, often leaving me as a stick but still a mobile stick. Kepping a STD engine in it will still allow you to move around, throw up a UAV or lay down an arty or air strike if needed.

    Also it should be noted that with the Range Module the ERLLas should be reaching out to a maximum of 1822m. But due to a bug in the game, they only reach out to a maximum of 1500m (full damage at 911m) however they do more damage at 1500m then the minimum you would get at 1822m. This bug has been discussed at length on Reddit and the regular MWO forums with no fix in sight yet.

    Here is my build with the STD 300.
