Mousewheel up: Zoom max. Mousewheel down: Zoom min. Mousewheel click: Next zoom level. (normal behavior). Makes it very easy not to get stuck in any zoom mode. Just scroll down.
I think he just means he panics and gets stuck with it due to player error. If it wouldn't warp my view, drop my framerate, or mismatch my HUD it would be good.
I used to use it a lot but over time stopped as I needed the slot for more important modules - old school OP Adv Seismic for example. Clan TC1's and radar modules (being so critical) finished them off for me. Only mech I still have it on is my dual gauss JM6. Three reasons really: - Lack of peripheral vision/ease of getting blind sided; - I am almost always moving and its a liability then; - I struggle to use different lead weapons using Advanced Zoom. Well I suppose theres a fourth.. there are far more useful modules it has to compete with and fit my playstyle.
I never use it, and I always puke when I see how other people use it. Adv zoom's blind spots will hide mechs, and ruin your depth perception for leading. So it's pointless at close to medium ranged because regular zoom is good enough, and pointless a vast majority of the time at long range because targets are moving. The only real advantage I can see for it is when there's a mech just visible above a ridge, and you need to hit the tiniest fragment of exposed metal. Which can also be done with your range finder, if the target is truly oblivious enough to camp anywhere near exposed.
Cause with top tier mods and quirks (DD) you can do some good damage in deep falloff (optimal being 750m on my Jager). Also great for hitting exposed components at range.
I never use this module on a dakka mech. It's too hard to see the ballistic trajectory and that's the most important thing if you want to keep up the supressing fire.
I suppose its a playstyle thing as AC5's are my staple weapon and I've never even contemplated using advanced zoom on those - now the ERLL on the Dragon 1N I could use it for at times.
I'd be curious to see a poll where the options are: *Use it now *Would use it if it didn't lag and distort *Wouldn't use it even if fixed Because there are 2 issues here: technical and tactical. The technical issues are the distortion of the hud, the pixelation, and the huge FPS drops. The tactical issues are blind spots, reduced field of view, and the preclusion of another module.
