KFX-S "Minipass" *** BOILERPLATE *** Updated for quirk pass - 4/8/2015 Updated for "C" left torso, OP also cleaned up/streamlined - 3/25/2015 (you can currently build this upon any CT [variant] since that pod doesn't have quirks) Minipass is a smaller, more mobile, and ultimately more derpy version of Multipass, which was a competitive-viable mech back in the days of beta (it evolved from XL to STD). Multi was a tier below the top meta (gauss+ppc, ML+streak spam, etc), and while Mini is a halfing Clan version it is nowhere near as powerful given the current meta. It is, however, a lot of fun... The mech features 2 symmetrical cERLLs with hand actuators for ease of use, ECM for all sorts of tactical maneuvers and survivability purposes, 5 JJs for tarting, 13 cDHS to keep it quite cool, and max armor cuz it's a light of course. Thank you for checking out this build, thread, and video - if you have any questions feel free to ask.
2/5, ECM ranged harass is effective cheese. This is a poor implementation of that effective cheese. I'm not saying it can't work, there are plenty of bads to humiliate and the level of coordination possible in even top level PUG matches is minimal. I can't decide which drawback would drive me nuts first: *The threat of being hunted down by an enemy light or medium shutting down my movements. *My shut-down movements forcing me to take shots at enemies who are in range and position to return fire instead of from a perfect vantage point. *Chosing between showing my very forgiving poke profile to enemies just to sling a 11 damage blue laser... Or an even more forgiving full target profile to throw 22... *Straight up getting beaten at my own game by a 3L. *All of the above meaning that my impact on a match was ultimately less than if I had used a more aggressive niche build to greater effect (MLas(+LPLas?), SRM, SSRM). Or, you know, an IS light.
I specifically interated several times that the build is not cheese; if you want LL cheese, it's been sitting over there with RVN-3L (and even Spider if it's troll flavored) for a couple years now. It barely even passes as a harasser; I wouldn't call it that, if you go for striker maneuvers too often and play with that fire, the dice of fates will roll an AC/20 pointed at your face at some point. The mech gets wrecked by any light pilot that's actually good (hint: less than 5% of the playerbase) who gets a jump on you, but then again, the mech isn't designed to be that far from your team, and is stealth, you're going to want to at least somewhat nearby so you can shade movements and why are you getting surprise jumped by any mech in this thing, anyways. JJs help alleviate a lot of the solo light on your ass thing (I alluded to this in the JJ bullet by touching on how without them it's a very shitty 3L) in some maps or situations, and any light that just comes at you straightforward staring like an idiot, even if it is running meta builds, it'll usually get smoked, that includes a Firestarter that just wants to stare - shoulder him in 2 hits. If they're a legit light and you're too far from your team, welp, you fucked up. Gotta find the right positions and play fire support in a lot of situations if you can't find a sneaky place to LoS whore with sniping. Anyways, again seeing as how I mentioned multiple times this mech is built around fun factor and not competitive meta, since I'm not playing that way again, I think that should be the emphasis in consideration regarding judging the build, rather than how cheesey it is. Ultimately, I think you missed the point, but I respect your opinion and entirely agree with it if someone was judging it from a meta-critical standpoint - which they shouldn't be, cuz that was not the original intent of design (derp).
I run a similar build on my Cicada-3M Ninja Sniper build where I find this build much more weight efficient with a few perks vs the IS Variant (I feel it compares more similarly than the Raven-3L because of the medium size body frame, move speeds and fire power.) The variant of your build I choose to use included a targeting computer Mk 1 as linked at the bottom The Cicada-3M Ninja Sniper The Kitfox-KFX-S "Minipass" Cicada 3M Pros 1.) Runs at 124.7kph vs the KitFox's 106.9kph 2.) 2 Back up Medium lasers in center torso 3.) High Mounted ERLL vs the low haning kitfox arms 4.) Less laser Duration especially considering the 3M quirks for laser duration 5.) Less heat use per shot 8 vs 10 of the clan ERLL 6.) Much more armor on the Legs and extra armor on the torso 7.) Shield Arms 8.) Uses all slots and hard points 9.) Engine Held DHS for heat effiency 10.) Torso ECM much easier to protect than a hanging arm 11.) Much cheaper to master all variants 12.) Quirks in General Kitfox KFX-S Pros 1.) Clan-ERLL are superior sniping weapons to ERLL (deal more damage 11 v 9 and have extended default range) 2.) Ability to lose a torso and not die using the Clan XL engine 2.) 30 Tonner as a light vs a 40 ton medium class 3.) Arm mounted lasers have more fine controls for accuracy 4.) Jump Jets Add a lot to the mech versatility and mobility 5.) Weight Efficiency, carrying 4 ton weapons and a 1 top ECM vs the 5 ton and 1.5 ton IS counter parts 6.) Swagger look and clan status. 7.) Shorter hitbox despite having a wider/fatter hitbox Comparing and contrasting both mechs I find that the clan perks need to be abused more to give a difference in play style and reason to use this variant. I use a similar build to yours capitalizing on both the jump jets and ecm but more fire pwoer than a spider can bring. I personally favor dropping a double heat sink for a Targeting computer for the zoom distance, target gather speed, beam range increase and crit chance vs unarmored limbs. I feel the AMS isn't needed and should you bring an AMS using the kit fox's unique ability to carry 3 AMS would be preferred anyways. Kit Fox KFX-S Targeting Computer "Minipass" Variant
Ahh. I see. Well then. I would bother to go review your mechs poorly in return, but I'm not a butthurt vindictive newb who just played his hand. So... Yeah that's how I look at it... even though the harassing/sniping with LLs on lights has been done for a long time, this chassis allows for a change of pace in regards to positioning and mobility, since 3L, Cicada, Adder, and Jenner don't have JJ + ECM combo. If a TC1 is something that you find to be useful for this build, which I can see, I would recommend throwing it on there if you see benefits from quicker info to spot what's cored on enemy a split second earlier, etc.
5/5, Great build for its purpose of ECM Support/Scouting/Fire Support. Cheese build or not, i like this role and manage to play it effectively in a scouting and long range fire support. ECM makes it all the better. I also like the TC version of this one as well. Good Job. DarkTycon i run that Cicada build as well as an ERPPC variant. Super fun scouting/fire support!
Minipass has been slightly refined - check the OP - down from 14 cDHS to 13, and up from 3 JJ to 5. Build also now uses "C" LT to recover some turn rate from using both S legs. ---------- Also, here's somethin extra for the kids... An assymetrical version of it, which loses the 5th JJ in exchange for +5% torso turn rate and an extra wep - 1x cSLa: ---------- Here is the original 14x cDHS, 3x JJ version for those that still want to note it:
4/5, A doozy of a mech - wish it had more speed but even with no basics it works nicely as a package... plus I just jump sniped a TBR.
