Yeah... I consider memory and GPU upgradable ofc. But I figured if I was gonna do a GPU at all to upgrade from my 550 TI, then 750 GTX was the bare minimum I'd actually see a return on when gaming, without having to shell out even more. The jump up from there starts going wayyy up, same as the CPU so I just found the sweet spot so to speak. I feel like the only thing I blatantly skimped on was that sketchy PSU brand. If I'm able to play without ever dipping below 40 FPS in any conditions with most specs on low, then I'm satisfied with how this relates to MWO. If I can record and still stay above 40FPS, then wow then that's absolutely tits. I'll find out soon enough... ...as long as I get 3-4 yrs minimum out of this machine, then the money was right with it all. If it blows up 6 months from now, you'll see "hunt for crazed psycho gamer on killing spree" on 11 o clock news.
I have the G230, and they are nice and comfy. The are also one of the only headsets that don't make me sweat in my ears.
I'll comment on the headphones only, Sony MDR-7506 Studio Headphones... Studio Monitoring. These are $100 or so, and are used in studios all over the world because they don't exaggerate the sound. I've been sticking to this model for a few years. You can also replace many of the components in these, if they break. Read up some of the reviews on them.
So this morning I finally went through the one bechmark that matters: Playing MWO while recording. Only tested one setting 'group' so far... In MSI Afterburner... MJPG recording 30 frames per second [with framerate limit disabled], at full 1080 resolution, with 80% quality selected... also recording both in-game sound and mic... All MWO settings on Medium, except Texturing on High... Post-AA on... ...on Canyon Networks... piloting a Mist Lynx... I did not dip below 60 FPS ingame the entire time while recording. No hiccups, no microstutters, no problems with the file afterwards. VICTORY ps - might need to buy Vegas or something cheap tho pps - usin an old version of Afterburner (231, new versions require proprietary hardware [their mobo or GPU] to use I think???) ppps - difference between 15-30 FPS and 50-75 FPS is night and day. 20 fps is like if i hit your kneecap with a bat and asked you to fight in a cage match, what the fuck. so glad to be back on a modern machine... now is the time when shit gets real.
Also bought Sony Movie Studio 13 for only $30 as digital d/l on Amazon... meh. Tired of shuffling between trial versions of other shit when I want to make something that will require actual editing, or just skating by on shitty WMM. It's basically the ghetto version of Vegas. Think I'm done spending anything on PC shit for a while, memory I'll pick up in spring or something. This PC is working great so far, was a good decision. That old backup to a backup of a Dell can finally rest in peace... ps - did some more recording testing, I'll prolly record at 40 FPS and have most game settings on medium with texturing on high. it's giving me consistent 60+ frames while recording in game. Just using Afterburner for recording, if it works why throw money away or relearn another program that might have one extra feature I'll prolly never even use... might try to find some different codecs but prolly not.
Nevermind, I bought the wrong version. Can't even full screen preview in this piece of shit program. Can't resize preview window. It's fucking tiny. Only the platinum version allows for this shit apparently..? Jesus fucking Christ I hate modern computing, everything is a scam. It might be the biggest waste of money I've ever spent, seeing as apparently amazon offers no refunds on downloaded software. I'll probably dispute the charge with my bank. I find it amazing that a program can give me over 300 video effects but won't allow me to get a full-screen preview of what I'm working on, or even resize the window in-program to beyond 480 resolution. Here's the actual size of the window I'm apparently supposed to edit every single thing in: ^ THIS IS WHY PEOPLE PIRATE SOFTWARE. The irony is that if I'm supposed to "upgrade" the version, it'll cost another $50. When the "upgraded" version only costs $55 to begin with. So in order for me to get a full screen preview in this piece of shit, I'll have to end up overpaying by $25. And I'm not even sure if I will get a full screen or adjustable preview window. What the fuck? I've never seen anything like this. It's like paying for a spicy version of MS Paint but you can't even view your image at a size larger than a thumbnail??? I'm gonna kill somebody.
If you think I'm joking, just look at this. So I'm supposed to pay fifty bucks to be able to resize this? What??? Look at how unoptimized this layout is! I cannot believe only the "Platinum" version will allow you to move those fucking chunks around. That is unholy. I just give up, fuck it. Hopefully my bank can chargeback on this trash tomorrow. The fact that a video editor cannot adjust preview window size or even full screen is much more aggravating than the waste of time and potentially money.
Cyberlink Power Director has been my current Video Editing program. I did get a copy for free (yar) but it works well. It's a bit more expensive if you buy it, but what you have said is basically why I didn't go for Sony programs.
You can see here about 1-2 seconds into this clip (very briefly), the Platinum version allows you to resize shit. That's all I fucking want. Cuz otherwise how the fuck am I supposed to work on anything with detail (ie game footage). And it pisses me off to no end, how at the end of the day for me to get that in the program will essentially require lighting $25 on fire (platinum is $55 standalone... regular I just paid 30, and upgrading it is also 50... derp). FML, this is nickel n diming at the most extreme.
If anyone has a legit cracked version of anything I will gladly take it. Again, this is why people pirate shit.
I also use Cyberlink Power Director (12) works great for basic and some advanced stuff. Rendering is top-notch.
I just use Adobe Premiere. Even without knowing all the features, it's nice and easy I had the advantage of already having it since I bought Creative Suite for all the art stuff I do though...being Adobe, it's damn expensive.
Wish I could justify it Perhaps when the fiance starts up her Graphic design career I can slip the extra software in
Called Amazon, they're issuing a refund on a special case for me! I simply explained that I purchased the wrong version on their website. Which is true, it's a convoluted paywall mess. Not sure if I'll reach for that Platinum version of the program, seeing as I was already burned once by it... Will think about whether to buy it, a diff program, or just pirate something today.
Here's all I wanted to be able to do... ...oh wow, I can actually see what I'm fucking working on now. Great. Can even pull it out into a seperate window out of the program itself now, throw it on the TV etc... Think I'll just buy this stupid platinum version tonight. I wouldn't though if had not been able to get a refund on the shit version, though. I took a look at Corel Pro 7? And Power Director as well for an hour on youtube? Meh; it's all the same shit... Just never go with the cheapest version of any software these days, I guess. 20 more bucks to resize a fucking window. Fuckin a. ps - doin this shit for yall, the MechWarriors! This game needs more content creators... I have a particular UrbanMech movie idea I've been marinating for a couple weeks now, stay tuned
I'm taking one eager young space cadet volunteer to get a super duper early early early early early preview of my UrbanMech movie. Basically the first quarter of it. First person to PM me gets to view it; nobody else! Seriously. And no talking about what you've seen, either. ^^ Can't spoil it, but I need to make sure the quality on the final output (aka Youtube) that I'm getting out of this Sony MSP 13 is looking good... and also to make sure the idea is worthwhile. Kinda hard when you're soloing something creatively without a frame of reference from someone else. Update - Vergere PM'd first
Just a smidge below halfway finished with my UrbanMech movie. So much tedious labor but honestly I've already learned this program (besides all the individual FX tweaks) in a day of use. Specifically, animation (big hint )... if I had photoshop or something similar, I'd never really need any other software to make polished amateur works. So far I've shown it to 2 people - IronChance and Vergere - and besides some useful critique, it's got the seal of approval so far! I'm excited to finished it, gonna be prolly 20 more hours worth of work to complete it. Gotta have it finished before Urbie releases so it can ride the hype train. Since I didn't order the early arrival Urbies, including in-game footage would mean I'd miss the bandwagon and release beyond the hype wave. Still not sure what to do about this but it's for the end of the movie regardless, I think I'll just skip in-game footage so it can release in sync with the mech and use something else (maybe an old MW game footage of Urbie).
